I just got a quote for the Poly in Nov 2009 at $523 :scared1:. Should I book it an just hope that the price goes down or hold off and see if the price goes down? I should mention that's for just the room, not even a package.

Well.. If the price goes down, you can take advantage of those lower prices. If the prices goes up though..... Well, then you will be kicking yourself. Basically it you would pay to go on vacation for the prices that are listed now, book them. If you dont want to pay that price, then wait, knowing that you may not get a better price, or book somewhere less expensive then change if the Poly comes down.

edit: WHEN in Nov 2009? If it's around Thanksgiving, I wouldnt expect a lower rate as that time is very busy. If it's other weeks, then there very well could be some discount available..

From Nov 11th to the 15th. I'm considering waiting, as much as I want to try it out next year, those prices are WOW! I think i'm just going to wait. I'm worried that I will get stuck into something high like that.

As I understand it, here's what Disney does before releasing next year's prices:

They quote the absolute top, "we couldn't possibly charge any more than this, no matter what!" price.

Then, in early August, when the actual prices come out, no one is disappointed. It' either 'I told you it couldn't actually be that high!" or "Honey, look at this great deal!!!"

Wait until the new prices are released in a few weeks, then re-evaulate your choices if necessary.

Yep that was for a standard garden view. I think I will wait a few weeks until the 2009 prices come out. That price was a bit of sticker shock for me.

I just had the same thing happen. The CM I talked to said they hadn't confirmed their seasons yet (value, peak, etc) and their 2009 rates, so what they do is quote an "average" price that will surely change when the rates come out. At that point, the price you'll have to pay will be adjusted accordingly. We went ahead and did it just to have a confirmed room (we're planning a Feb trip).

I actually contacted the ta again and was told it was doubtful the price would go down. The room was a standard garden view. I'm just going to wait and see. I don't want to get stuck with that rate.

I'd book BUT I'd book room only. You can add the DDP right up until a few days before your trip. This gives you the flexibility to cancel up to 5 days before the trip if something else becomes available. With a package, you have to cancel at 45 days or earlier.
The Poly is very different from the Beach Club where I see you've stayed. Where everything at BC is light and airy, the Poly is very dark.

The price could go up?!? Are they mad? Would people REALLY pay $600 a night for Poly standard view in this recession? :scared1:

Is that $523 a night? or for several nights? Join the DVC and you will stay in all the DVC resorts for nothing but your maint fee a year once you have used up your timeshare investment (took me only 3 years of trips to use mine up)

Prices really never go down. They are priced for the seasons, value, holiday, etc. November around thanksgiving will be high. The only deal you could possibly get is a free dining plan if they throw that in but not likely at the holidays. They only use that during the dead zones... like Sept, Oct, Jan.

Book it and if you do see the price go down, disney will reduce your room rates. I have done that many times.

Say you stay 7 nights at $523. That is roughly $3500! You could have a quarter of your disney vacation club timeshare paid for with that one trip. I am serious. I started my disney world travels in 1998 (twice a year). By time I got to 2003 I realized I could have bought two timeshares with just the room prices.

Time share is awesome. I have had it for 5 years and love it! Won't ever sell it and plan on riding rockin roller coaster in my last year of ownership at 85! You can use it anywhere in the world. This year I stayed at Disney's Hilton Head resort. A must do! This is a 5 star outdoor activity paradise! Beach house on the ocean is to die for..... Hilton head was classy, but not snooty.

Being the 2009 prices aren't out yet, you are being quoted the peak or holiday rate for 2008. If you were to book now, you would put 1 night's deposit down (fully refundable up until 5 or 6 days prior to arrival) and the price would adjust accordingly when the actual prices for 2009 come out in August. I highly doubt a Poly GV room during regular season would cost as much as $523/night :sad2:. If you booked and the price still seemed too high, you could always cancel. Or just wait another couple weeks until the 2009 prices are out and book then. But I really wouldn't worry about the price being that high......that would mean the room rate would be going up $100+/night from 2008 and I don't see that as being realistic.

Did you talk to an agent or book it online? I can't even get the website to let me put in 2009 dates

I coulodn't believe that it would be so expensive. So I went on-line and tried to book for this year and the Poly, with no view, is $399 a night for two people. I can't imagine it being that much more next year. I think the differencef from 2007 to 2008 went from $78 to $82 at ASM. They must have given you the second cheapest room, which added about $90 a night to the total. I would wait. But I would also book everything at once. IOW, book the room and tickets together. I know the Poly is great, but I'd rather stay in a cheaper place if the price was going to keep from going at all.

Good luck.
