TONY AWARDS 2014 - Any Broadway lovers out there?

What is the significance of the hopping? Is it because he is from Australia and he likes kangaroos? Seriously...I don't follow broadway enough to know why he would hop for the opening. TIA.

.

That was actually a scene from an old movie musical "Small Town Girl." Bobby Van hopped around like that for a good 10 minutes. I recognized the likeness immediately but had to look up the movie's title and actor's names.

Have no idea WHY Hugh Jackman and/or the producers decided to recreate the scene. When Hugh was hopping backstage there was an actual glimpse of the movie scene on a TV monitor.

I don't remember in the past the producers padding the show by including musical numbers from upcoming shows or current shows that weren't even nominated. Stuff like whatever Sting or Jennifer Hudson sang about. Or numbers from Cabaret, Bullets Over Broadway, and maybe one or two others that weren't nominated.

I suppose extra musical numbers are more exciting for viewers than the awards for lighting design or costumes.

Exactly. There was a point where the Tony's had such low ratings the show was about to be cancelled. Now with all those performances, they get more viewers. And sell more tickets.

Now I'm really happy we have tickets for Cabaret. And I really want tickets for Gentleman's Guide and Bullets Over Broadway.

Thank you. I thought it was very odd at the time but now it makes sense.
