I've been having this weird feeling in the back of my throat since Monday night. It would make my ear itch inside and my throat would be scratchy.

Well I decided to look at my throat yesterday and noticed this white spot and my right tonsil. It's gotten a lot bigger today. It's all I can feel, and it's irritating.

My mom looked it up, and it's called a tonsil stone. It's like a collection of food and bacteria and what not. It actually sounds quite disgusting.

Anyways, some people's eventually fall off by them scratching at it with their finger but other have to go to the doctor to get it removed.

I, myself is dreading both. I gag at anything like that, and just about throw up most of the time. I can't even brush the back of my tongue without gagging really bad.

I've picked at it a few times, but of coarse nothing.

I'm the type of person to freak out about the smallest things, so of coarse I'm thinking the worse about it.

Ehh-
Anyone else ever had these?

they ARE gross. my mom got them. she (this is so gross) squeezed her tonsils and the stuff came out. its like a big zit in your tonsil pretty much.

that skeeved me out to type it.

you can get them removed, as the alternate.

Try gargling with Listerine a few times a day for about 20-30 seconds. Listerine only (not any other brand) is a great disinfectant.

Hope it helps

Okay, I'm sorry, but I just threw up in my mouth a little bit. That description was disgusting.

Good luck!

Thats not what mine is, lol.
It's not that gross..

As gross as it sounds, I get them all the time which then turns into a sore throat, which then turns into an ear infection. I've found the best way to get rid of them is to take a qtip and dig it out. Its not fun and smells vile.

Good luck!

its either that, or what you have isn't tonsil stones.
tonsil stones ( or tonsilloliths) occur when the pores of your tonsils get crammed full of crap like bacteria or food or anything that goes in your mouth, really. they get hard over time, and end up looking like this when they're removed:

and if they get too bad and aren't taken care of, your tonsils will look like this:

this diagram explains how they happen:

its is very very much like having a zit in your tonsil.

Thanks for telling all of your mom's personal secrets! LOL LOL

OP, what you are describing does sound like a tonsil stone. It is not really as hard as a stone, but it is very firm. Have your mom lay a dry Qtip on the stone, then lift straight up. That will usually pull it out. It will stick to the Qtip in most cases. Also, the more you cough, the more it will come to the surface, coughing causes your tonsils to 'tense' up and pushes it out.

They usually occur with people who have had a lot of sore throats as a child. You tonsils will be all ... well, lumpy which gives little craters for the nasty stuff to get stuck. Once you learn how to take care of the stones, you won't get big ones anymore. You will be looking in your mouth all of the time now!!

Well.. you didn't have to tell them about my tonsil stones. I swear, i think that was my last good secret :rotfl:

I get them all the time, but a lot less frequently than I used to. I usually shower q-tips in hydrogen peroxide & try to poke them out.

Tonsil stones are pretty nasty. I have dealt with them for some time. I used to gag myself trying to dig them out but I found some good info at tonsilstones.net on how to get rid of them. He suggests using a water pik to blast them out.

Hope this helps
