There are several places. We were there for the 29th and December 1st. The spot in tomorrowland is the most crowded. If you can wait until around 10pm you can just about walk right up to the photo spot over by the Alladin magic carpet rides. They didn't have the spots marked on the map this year as clearly as they have been in the past.
Crowds for the 29th were very light. Crowds on Dec 1st were heavier. One of the cast members told us that Disney had given tickets to employees for Dec 1st as they didn't want the parks to seem empty. It was a nice perk for them but made it more crowded for us.
The fireworks were spectacular -- much better than wishes or any others we have seen in previous years. One time we watched from Fantasyland and the other time we watched from the bridge by the castle. The view looking towards the castle was much better. Although, be warned that they do not turn the lights off on the Christmas tree, by the bridge, by the castle. If you stand behind it you will miss some of the fireworks. Stand to either side and you will be fine.
