I just got a call from some friends who were stuck on Spaceship Earth tonight for a long time and then finally evacuated! He said they turned all the lights on inside the ball and had everyone walk out. He said it was amazing to see everything from the inside, I bet it was really something!

That was the old 2003 version of the attraction. Guests were demanding to see everything with the lights on and to have to walk out. In 2004 Disney hopes to re-hire the people who know how to keep the ride going as it was designed. :teeth: ::MickeyMo

Or maybe they'll let it deteriorate if surveys show guests enjoy SSE more when it breaks down. :wave2:

Thanks billybaruch1. It's always nice to start a new year snorting coffee out one's nose. :p

My family and I were evacuated from Peter Pan last March. We got to jump down on Wendy's bed, then walk out. Neat, but not worth spending an hour in the flying boat.

We were in Pirate of the Car. and we had to be evacuated on this trip. We were in the boat for over an hour and my DH has a bad knee to the point that we have a guest assistance pass at WDW.

Well the people in charge wanted us to get hoisted out of the boat and my DH could not do it. The whole boat seemed to know more about our situation than the people in charge. Imagine being told to ROCK THE BOAT even thoug we could feel that we were off the track and wedged against the bottom.

What irks me is that with my DH's bad knee, we were told to walk out of the ride and follow yellow arrows on the ground outside and told to walk quickly...Well he can't and we were kinda told off by someone walking by who said we had to move quicker...We wasted 1 1/2 hours and not even a fastpass as a sorry...

We had to rearrange our sheduals to go back to MK to finish or visit on another day.

Got stuck in Imagination my last trip and was in there quite a long time. They had to get Reedy Creek to rescue me since I use a power wheelchair. Fastpass or any other compensation. Yeah I wish.

Last March we got stuck on ToT. We too had to get evacuated, but were brought down the chicken elevator and got right into the next elevator on the other side. I have to say it was one of the more memorable moments at WDW - all of us in the elevator joked and bonded - to the point that we all took our same seats when we got in the elevator on the other side. It was very funny and only one person chickened out and didn't ride the second time. It was interesting to see things with the lights on.

In 2000 DD and I had to walk off of space mountain.....right at the top of the first hill.

You think it's scary in the dark...you should see it with the lights on! YIKES!!

We were stuck in test track fro about an hour this past summer before they walked us out. We were in the room where the truck comes blaring its horn and luckily we only heard that a few times before they shut it off. My kids thought it was pretty neat to walk back through the ride especially the road climb.

My husband and I make a game of guessing how many times Spaceship Earth stops for an 'unscheduled' stop. Heck it is so common they even warn you about it befoe the ride starts now. Might want to rethink whether we want to take the chance anymore. Don't mind short stops as we get to see details we might miss otherwise but it would take far too long for this height phobic old broad to walk all those stairs. LOL

BTW, hi there Faith!

Luck us we've never had to walk out of a Disney ride, but have had to do it at Busch Gardens and IOA. At BG we were on a roller coaster, about 3/4 of the way up the first hill ( I can not remember the roller coaster). Well after of about 20 minutes of sitting there they came and let us out. Thank goodness we were in the last row and we were let out first, and neither of us are afraid of heights! But the step from inside the car to the see through steps leading down was quite a big step. The workers had to walk each row down and then walk back up to get the others. The other ride we had to exit was Spiderman, it was quite interresting to see it with the lights on!

My 2 DS had to walk down from the top in Nov 2000. and the oldest had a bad knee. He just took his time, and there were only a few people with them. In aug. 2002, my Dd, DH and I got stuck in the top during a severe thunderstorm. You could hear the thunder over the sound system. Well we had just turned around backwards when we stopped. Just our luck!! Stuck in the ball, backwards for 20 minutes, under a drip in the ceiling!!!

Ya gotta love it!!!:teeth:

I've heard that the reason rides like Spaceship Earth and Haunted Mansion stop often isn't always mechanical problems but is because they are continually moving and sometimes have to stop to help handicapped people to get on/off.

The scariest thing for me was when I got stuck on IASM- had nightmares for weeks! Little dolls running all around me telling me they were going to kill me- probably because that's what I kept repeating to myself as I sat there pulling my hair out!!! I still tend to go into a deep trance when those words come into my mind....

Good one InstImpres

So far, we have been lucky - no unscheduled stops

thanks

Years ago (I think it was early 84), my sister and I got stuck on the top of the hill on BTM. Must of been some sort of electrical failure since the lap bar released. :earseek: Personally, I thought this was the neatest thing! I had my camera with me and started to move around in the seat (with the lap bar loose, you can do this freely!!) and got some really great shots!! My sister didn't find this situation too amusing and threatened to push me out if I didn't sit still!! :teeth: I think we sat there for something like 20 minutes. When we pulled back into the station, they offered us another ride. The entire train yelled "Yeah!!" and not a soul got off!! :bounce:

In 1990 we got stuck on BTMRR on one of the hills that is "covered" (I don't know how to explain where we were). Anyway, we were there for about 30 minutes and then it started to lightening (no rain). The friend I was riding with freaked--I was pretty calm. But I don't think I would have been as calm had I had to walk off it. After the storm passed (about 10 minutes), they must have fixed whatever was wrong before the storm, because we started to roll again. Glad it didn't RAIN!!!

We got stuck on Test Track. My oldest daughter uses a wheelchair to get around Disney as she is unable to walk for long distances. Because of this, a cast member escorted us to an elevator where we went to a "backstage" area. It was a beautiful lounge with an amazing view of Test Track. We were told to help ourselves to a soft drink while they went and got our daughter's wheelchair. They also gave us passes - not Fast Passes - these we could use at any time by going through another entrance. Disney went above and beyond for us!!!
