Was just curious to find out if anywhere in the Land stocks my fav treat Tonga Toast or whether I have to wait till I get back to the world for it

I haven't seen anything like it at DLR (sorry). I just experienced it for the first time last month on our trip to WDW. YUMMY!!!!

I had to google it :) Sounds like deep fried bread with banana !

This sweetly decadent breakfast is one of the most talked-about menu items in Disney World. Served at Disney's Polynesian Resort for more than 25 years, it is on the menu at the Kona Café.

This recipe appears in "Cooking With Mickey and the Disney Chefs" and is reprinted with permission.
Ingredients:
1 cup sugar
2 teaspoons cinnamon
1 loaf sourdough bread (8 inches long)
2 bananas, peeled
1 quart canola oil, for frying
Preparation:
1. Mix the sugar and cinnamon with a fork until thoroughly blended; set aside.
2. Slice the bread into four 2-inch-thick slices.
3. Cut each banana in half crosswise, then each piece lengthwise.
4. Place a bread slice flat on the counter and tear out just enough from the middle (do not tear all the way through) to stuff half a banana into it; repeat with each slice of bread.
5. In a large pot or deep fryer, heat the oil to 350 degrees F; use a candy thermometer to make certain the oil doesn't get any hotter, or it will burn.
6. Gently place one bread slice into the oil for 1 minute, or until light brown.
7. Turn and fry for another minute on the other side.
8. Remove bread from the pot and toss it in the sugar and cinnamon mixture.
9. Repeat for each piece.

I don't know if it's the same but Rainforest Cafe in DTD has something called Tonga Toast on their breakfast menu. Hopefully this is what you're looking for. :)

I think the OP was asking just that....if DLR has "Tonga Toast" or if it's only available in Disney World.

I've never heard of it so my guess is it's not available in DL. Sorry!

Thanks for your reply :goodvibes
I figured it would be a long shot of it being sold in DL but was living in hope.

For any1 who has nt tried it, it's super yummy but very fattening ;)
It's Sourdough bread stuffed with bananas cooked in Oil & covered in cinnamon & sugar. Served with maple syrup too. It's massive!!!!
It's served at Kona Cafe & Captain Cooks at Polynesian.

Found a vid on YouTube showing how to make it. Guy who made video mentioned it could be brought on both wdw & dl which is why I wanted to double check.
Oh well, looks like I ll have to wait 12 months before I get my fav treat :sad2:

OMG :cool1::banana::woohoo::rotfl:
U ve made my day, I'm presuming this has gotta be the same thing as the 1 served in wdw

Thankyou so much for letting me know :goodvibes

Do u happen to know if Rainforest Cafe still have this on their menu???
If so is it wise to make an ADR for breakfast there??

Not sure if RFC's is an exact replica of the Poly's Tonga Toast. I googled a recipe and it looked the same but that was from 2001. So who knows!

And on that same line of food thought, Disneyland has the Monte Cristo at Blue Bayou :cloud9:. If you liked your deep fried heaven on a plate, this is about as good as it gets! Its at lunch only and omg, do I ever miss those when I am at WDW.

If you decide to do RFC for breakfast, I think a Priority Seating (still called that at DLR, no ADR's) is always a good idea at RFC. I believe you have to call them directly. I have never seen much in the way of crowds at breakfast but then again, I haven't eaten breakfast there in a couple of years. Better safe than sorry!

I am always up for helping anyone get a hold of a MC sandwich! If you don't go to the BB for lunch, you can get the traditional MC and an all-cheese version at Cafe Orleans for both lunch and dinner :thumbsup2

Yup, you have to call RFC directly for reservations. By the way, I think you get an AP discount at RFC for breakfast ... seem to remember hearing that somewhere ... have no first hand experience with this though. Only been to RFC for dinner (no AP discount).

I have never seen tonga toast in Disneyland but the banana stuffed french toast at Storytellers is to die for. Might be a decent subsitute.

Sounds like a natural for DLR. When i think of sourdough, i rarely think of Orlando. ;)

Besides it appears to have several important food groups covered:

- the deep fried food group.
- the sourdough food group.
- the butter/sugar/cinnamon food group &...
- the 'Nana food group.

Let's get the Paradise Pier to make it for us....(is Lilo & Stich still hanging out there?)

:)

I agree! I have had both, now that I'm older I appreciated less oil on the French Toast!

:rotfl: Your post cracked me up :thumbsup2 I agree about the sourdough :)

And alas, Lilo and Stich are no longer at the PPH. It's been replaced by Surfs Up with Mickey and Friends. I haven't been to it, and you don't hear much about it :confused3 It would have been a good fit though! Feel free to correct me one and all, but isn't the restaurant they're building at the DLH supposed to have a Polynesian theme? Hmmmm ... hope springs eternal for Tonga Toast at DLR ;)

Only 3 more months until I can enjoy this wonderful heart-attack-on-a-plate. Eating Tonga Toast (and the macadamia nut pineapple pancakes) at the Poly is a must do for our family every trip.
