Sounds like deep fried bread with banana !This sweetly decadent breakfast is one of the most talked-about menu items in Disney World. Served at Disney's Polynesian Resort for more than 25 years, it is on the menu at the Kona Café.
This recipe appears in "Cooking With Mickey and the Disney Chefs" and is reprinted with permission.
Ingredients:
1 cup sugar
2 teaspoons cinnamon
1 loaf sourdough bread (8 inches long)
2 bananas, peeled
1 quart canola oil, for frying
Preparation:
1. Mix the sugar and cinnamon with a fork until thoroughly blended; set aside.
2. Slice the bread into four 2-inch-thick slices.
3. Cut each banana in half crosswise, then each piece lengthwise.
4. Place a bread slice flat on the counter and tear out just enough from the middle (do not tear all the way through) to stuff half a banana into it; repeat with each slice of bread.
5. In a large pot or deep fryer, heat the oil to 350 degrees F; use a candy thermometer to make certain the oil doesn't get any hotter, or it will burn.
6. Gently place one bread slice into the oil for 1 minute, or until light brown.
7. Turn and fry for another minute on the other side.
8. Remove bread from the pot and toss it in the sugar and cinnamon mixture.
9. Repeat for each piece.

I think the OP was asking just that....if DLR has "Tonga Toast" or if it's only available in Disney World.
I've never heard of it so my guess is it's not available in DL. Sorry!

I don't know if it's the same but Rainforest Cafe in DTD has something called Tonga Toast on their breakfast menu. Hopefully this is what you're looking for.![]()

. If you liked your deep fried heaven on a plate, this is about as good as it gets! Its at lunch only and omg, do I ever miss those when I am at WDW. And on that same line of food thought, Disneyland has the Monte Cristo at Blue Bayou. If you liked your deep fried heaven on a plate, this is about as good as it gets! Its at lunch only and omg, do I ever miss those when I am at WDW.
If you decide to do RFC for breakfast, I think a Priority Seating (still called that at DLR, no ADR's) is always a good idea at RFC. I believe you have to call them directly. I have never seen much in the way of crowds at breakfast but then again, I haven't eaten breakfast there in a couple of years. Better safe than sorry!

I have never seen tonga toast in Disneyland but the banana stuffed french toast at Storytellers is to die for. Might be a decent subsitute.
Sounds like a natural for DLR. When i think of sourdough, i rarely think of Orlando.
Besides it appears to have several important food groups covered:
- the deep fried food group.
- the sourdough food group.
- the butter/sugar/cinnamon food group &...
- the 'Nana food group.
Let's get the Paradise Pier to make it for us....(is Lilo & Stich still hanging out there?)

Your post cracked me up
It would have been a good fit though! Feel free to correct me one and all, but isn't the restaurant they're building at the DLH supposed to have a Polynesian theme? Hmmmm ... hope springs eternal for Tonga Toast at DLR
