Is the Tonga Toast worth missing RD at MK? I've always wanted to try it, but DH and DD don't care one way or the other. We always do RD, but I don't think we'll make it with a 7:30 reservation.

I've also never tried Tong Toast due to never wanting to miss RD, but my upcoming trip I've booked a few extra days just so I can do non-park things that I've always wanted to try.

They do have tonga toast at the quick service location at the poly ... If this is an option for you : )

It's very, very good. And the Kona press pot was the best coffee I've ever had. *I* felt it was worth it for me to have a non-park day and tour the monorail resorts, especially since I had been to the parks before and hope to go again.

Is it worth it for you? Nobody can answer that.

They don't have the strawberry sauce if you get it at quick service, which is the whole reason for getting tonga toast according to my husband. We are missing RD so he can get his tonga toast on this next trip. :-)

If it's not worth it alone, Tonga Toast and the Macadamia nut pancakes sure are worth missing RD for.

I don't know what time Kona opens, but if you arrive early, look at the menus online so you know what you want to order, order quickly and ask for the bill right away so you can leave when you're done eating, you can probably make it to rope drop, if not shortly after.

If that doesn't work for you, you can get Tonga Toast at the QS at the Poly, or make the latest breakfast ADR for Kona and head there after some time spent at MK for RD.

If it were me, I'd miss rope drop! I love Tonga Toast and Press Pot Coffee.

My son's solution. Go to MK on an EMH morning and leave just in time to make the last breakfast seating. :rotfl2:

Yes! Pressed pot coffee and tonga toast are worth missing rope drop.

While you can get tonga toast at captain cooks, it is currently closed for refurb and no strawberry sauce, and the strawberry sauce is so yummy.

I had 7:30a.m. reservation at Kona before, and we made it to MK RD just fine. If you are planning on enjoying the relaxing break fast then you may miss RD, but like us with 2 little kids, we ate, pack up, and hop on monorail.

The qs there is closed for refurb

There is a backup quick service location that still has Tonga Toast during construction.

I had it at Kona Cafe just last week after reading about it here for the longest time. Honestly, it was alright but not as good as I was expecting. And it was so sweet it actually upset my stomach so i couldn't finish it. Would I miss rope drop for it, no. We were in the area late morning because ODS was on a pirate cruise at GF so we hopped over and had breakfast, but I wouldn't make a special effort to go there again.

As for the coffee,I don't drink coffee but DH is a fanatic who roasts his own beans at home and he wasn't impressed. :confused3

With being able to reserve FP+ ahead of time - go for it. You can still get your must do rides in.

I love the tonga toast and agree about the kona coffee (press pot)

If you're there for 7:30 you will make RD for sure. And if not, you will be dying in heavenly bliss from the wonders of Tonga Toast. Worth going to Kona for because the strawberry sauce is SO GOOD!!

Seriously. I want some right now.

I think RD and Tonga Toast are both overrated--but you should try both at least once :earsboy:

For those if us that do not roast our own beans, the pressed pot us good. Did he get the pressed pot or just regular brewed? I agree their regular brewed is ok, not spectacular, but I don't, nor do I ever wish to, roast my own coffee beans. I bet it smells like heaven in your house!!!!

To me the Tonga Toast was ok, The macadamia nut pineapple pancakes were TOTALLY worth it. I also did not see the rave about the press pot coffee. It was better than the regular stuff served but it wasnt strong enough for my tastes. But I think you will make rope drop if you have a 7:30 ressie

That is really subjective - for me yes I love it! Also I have been to magic kingdom on many many many occasions I don't go to WDW just for the parks anymore...

You idk have you been to magic kingdom a lot? Do you have another trip soon? It depends on your situation :)

I dream about Kona Cafe. I usually reserve Tonga Toast for QS. But the macadamia nut pancakes and kona press would be worth missing RD for me. My kids are allergic to tree nuts, so I eat the macadamia pancakes on the far side of the table.

Can you get the strawberry sauce with the macademia pancakes as an extra? I don't like bananas so the Tonga is not an option for me.

I had the toast our last day at WDW last year. Too sweet. Overrated. And I have a permanent sweet tooth. If you get it have the sauce on the side. Not worth missing rd. I would go back to Kona but not for the toast.
