I have no idea why:confused3 I didn't want to ask as the CM's all seemed very focused on getting people out, but here's what we experienced.

We were standing in line for Autopia and I noticed a California Highway Patrol helicopter flying over us. I pointed it out to DH, and we laughed at an 80's
"CHIPS" TV show reference. Anyway...didn't give it a second thought and rode Autopia. As we were exiting around 4:30 I noticed a large mass of people leaving, and as we were heading for our stroller we were immediately stopped by a CM and told we had to leave Tomorrowland immediately. I explained we had left our stroller up at the entrance to the ride. The CM asked me to describe it, and went to get it for us. Most people were being very cooperative even in all the confusion.

We headed over to Toontown because the evacuation of Tomorrowland made everywhere you turned a zoo. As we were sitting in Toontown there were several helicopters circling overhead. We "assume" they must have been searching for someone :confused3, but honestly have no idea.

Tomorrowland reopened at around 6.

We have no idea what actually happened, but unfortunately what was supposed to be a nice "relaxing" evening in the park turned very hectic as people had no idea where to go once their plans were unexpectedly changed.

Maybe someone else can shed some light on what happened.

On the Disney World side of Disboards a similar post was up. The person saw on CNN live coverage. CNN said a unattended backpack was found in Tomorrowland and they were evacuating DL, but not DCA. He had a link to CNN.com but the link inside the cnn site to the story was gone when he posted.

Anyway I'm glad you didn't have to leave the park all together.

Maybe somthing will show up on a local LA station about it.

The Orange County Register is reporting that Disneyland's Tomorrowland area was evacuated for about an hour as the bomb squad was called in to investigate an unattended bag. The bag was determined to contain various food items.

Apparently an "unattended bag" was discovered.

And this is the end of bringing soft sided coolers into Disney Parks. Who ever owns the cooler is now owed a slap on the face from everyone who wants to bring lunch with them but can't.:thumbsup2

If I have to start removing my shoes at the security checkpoint... ;)

I was this close to asking the CM jokingly "what did someone plant a bomb?" But thought better of it, and kept my mouth shut. As I was reading your replies to DH he said that was his first thought as well, but neither one of us said anything.

I agree, better safe, but I thought that's why there was a bag search at the entrance. Must have been one suspicious looking cooler ;)

Yeah that is a good point. I mean you can leave a stroller out and about. I assume this is why I haven't heard that they detonated the suspicious cooler.

My guess is it was leaking somthing or appeared corroded. They tested the liquid, it was seven up, case closed.

Interesting. How many times do you think people bring in a small cooler, park it somewhere in stroller row, and leave in there for a very long time. When we had a stroller, we'd often park it and leave it for a long time while we went and did thing. What made this item suspicious? Where it was left?

When we were there last week they shut down the carousel and had a man with a black lab circle the area several times. There were about 10 CM's in the area and they seemed hyper but not in a panic. We had no idea what was going on but thought maybe someone left a bag there and didn't come back? They reopened it about 15 mins after and we rode. I am glad it wasn't a serious situation in tomorrowland. These days you can never be too careful!

My local news just reported that "the bag was near Capt. EO in an area not accessible to the public".

Sign of the times. I'm sure since the Times Square incident Disneyland and every where large groups gather have been on alert. Good thing it was only a left behind lunch.

Echoing those who've said "better safe than sorry".

I'd rather read that "Everyone was evacuated from Tomorrowland; the suspicious package turned out to be a cooler with a leaky bottle of Gatorade inside. People in the Park were annoyed." than "Bomb goes off in Tomorrowland; it's not known yet how great the damage is, or how many people were hurt. People in the Park are distraught."

Good for both the CMs and law enforcement for erring on the side of caution.

So glad this turned out to be nothing. It also makes me want to comment on the whole bag check process. Personally, I don't feel like they are really checking anything. I've never seen them tell someone they couldn't bring an item into the park and I've never seen them really check thoroughly. The bottom line is that I feel like if someone wanted to bring something harmful into DLR, they could easily figure out how to get it through the bag check area. It seems like the bag check is perfunctory and maybe they're secretly checking each of us in some other way that we're unaware of.......OK, well maybe I hope they are. :)

Bag check, it's been said many times, is just to slow us down so the real security can check for suspicious behavior.

As we all know there is no security at DLR. You see people walking around with knives on their belts and god only knows what else. Most areas of DLR are accessable by the public whether posted or not.
When I have been there the last few years I have never seen a soft sided cooler allowed into DLR, so I wonder when that policy changed. You may just see a ban on many items being allowed into the parks after this, just have to wait and see.
