is the island still open? I heard it was being closed...is that for good or for refurbishement?

We were there 11/17... never heard it was closing. The Liberty Riverboat is down for refurbishment... maybe that's what you heard.

Yes - that could be it - a girlfrind of mine I was chatting w/said she heard it so I thought I would ask to be sure--I knew y'all would know! ;)

Oh, I hope it's not closed! It's a great place to relax from the craziness of the rest of the park and to let the little one's run off steam, lol.

We were on the island on November 17 and my DS found a paintbrush! He was so thrilled. I hope this all a big rumor with no truth about it. My son loves to run around the island--although some of those caves are a little scary to his mom!

I just read about this in my Unofficial Guide(regarding Tom Sawyer Island in Disneyworld)- here is the quote from the book:

"Enjoy it while you can: given that Disneyland has already shuttered Fort Wilderness on its own version of Tom Sawyer's Island (supposidly due to costs associated with disabled-access issues as well as safety concerns), it's only a matter of time 'till Disney's lawyers finally get around to closing down Fort Langhorn. So run up and down those extremely narrow and poorly lit stairs and fire off a politically incorrect rifle while you still can. The Imagineers expect to be playing "Taps" for this Frontierland icon in the very near future"

Not sure what Jim Hill's definition of "very near future" is, but he provided that blurb to the Unofficial Guide in the summer of 2004 and Fort Langhorn is still open a year and a half later.

Ahhhhhhh... I didn't know he said that in the 2004 too!!!!!!! That quote was from the 2006 edition.. makes me wonder how true it is...... :confused3

Though Tom Sawyers Island at Disneyland has changed, it is by no means a bad change! Many of the new pathways and stairs are great and offer wonderful views ( and are easier for an adult to fit through to go with thier child). I doubt they would close the island all together in Florida either. I look forward to going on it for the first time this fall!

They need to put some kind of ride on that island, too bad splash mt is a log ride, that would be neat. Iknow you all seem to like it but I want a ride....just like adventureland needs a thrill kind of ride. In fact, we were there in Aug and could not get near the Jungle Cruise...what is up with looking at fake animals in a boat when you can see the real ones at the AK Safari?

Would it be considered a pipe dream if they moved TSI and incorporated some of the old water rides from River Country into it ?

Put me in the "all" who seem to like it. The whole rest of the park is full of rides. Keep a few areas around without them.
