I think my kids would love to look for the Paintbrushes - we are arriving at 1pm on our first day - is it worth looking for them that day or woudl they all be gone?

Also - do they tell you if they are all gone for the day so you dont waste time looking?

I think I read on another thread that they don't hide the paintbrushes any more but I could be wrong. Every time we've gone over to the island, we have looked for the paintbrushes but never found them.

In the spring of 2008 they still hid the paintbrushes. This is the first I have heard that it has stopped.

If they do hide the brushes you better be on the first raft over to the island. There were quite a few people on the raft with us that knew about the brushes and we were all looking. We found two and gave one to a family with kids. One family milked the system and found three brushes but that is another story.

We waited in line before the rafts started going to the island first thing in the morning. I think it was an EMH day as well.

We were at Tom Sawyers Island Friday morning and we were on the first raft over and they did not have the paint brushes hidden. The cast member said nobody hid the paint brushes that day. Not sure if this now the case or just something that happened that day.

We haven't tried it yet but we want to try in our next trip. So, is it up and running this year?

My DH took my 9DS and I across on morining 20th, we found three paint brushes (two of them did not have a label telling you what to do with them) we rehid two of them and handed one to the CM as brush directed. We saw another family with three paint brushes also.

So I hope its still occuring as our son had a ball looking for them.

We found a paintbrush in October 2008. We got there around 10:45am and we actually located about 7 of them. The cast member said we only needed one paintbrush per family to get the pass for all members of the family, so getting more than one brush is not necessary if you have more than one person in your group. The pass is for a fast pass on either Big Thunder or Splash Mountain.

Some of the brushes are in plain sight and others are a little tough to find - hint - we found a few in the "cave"....

I'm glad to hear they are still doing this! My kids loved when we did this in August 08. I was dripping with sweat and they kept begging DH and I for 5 more minutes. We gave in and guess what, I found one! It took us about 45 minutes and we were the first family to find one that day. We were on the first raft over (it was packed with people looking for one) and we asked on the way to be sure they had hid them that day.

Last time we were there (2007) we didnt go to the island until mid afternoon. we found two paintbrushes, neither with tags. we were the only ones on the boat with a brush and the prize was well worth it as the wait for splash mountain then was 2hrs+. i dont think many people know about this, i only found out by being on here and had been to disney 4 times previously.

I'm pretty excited about the paintbrushes too....except that I won't be going with kids...is it wrong for 4 people in their mid twenties to try and find a paintbrush? I don't want to take the fun away from the families with kids, but I'm pretty sure that the paintbrush hunt is going to be one of the highlights of my trip....

I think that would great for a group of adults to find a paintbrush as long as your group only takes one (same for any group or family). Disney is for everyone! Have a great trip!

My family was on the Tom Sawyer rafts first thing on friday morning, too! We were looking for the Paint Brushes but were so disappointed when no one could find any. I guess this explains why none could be found!
There were four of us and we were all wearing our Phillies T-shirts and I had my birthday button on! Maybe I was standing next to you!

If you find one and hand it in you get an anytime fastpass for your group to use on splash mountain or BTMRR.

I'm trying to figure out why somebody would waste their early morning MK time riding a raft to and from Tom Sawyer's Island. I understand you get a fastpass if you find a brush, but aren't you able to accomplish more in the early morning hours if you just line up for stuff?
Only thing I can think of is maybe they don't start sending rafts over there until 11:00 or something?

Yes,the fence is half-painted. It is between Harper's Mill and Aunt Polly's Dockside Diner(which should be renamed Aunt Polly's Dockside Vending Machines ) right along the Rivers of America.
