This is now a Pirate Island, right? I haven't been there since Nov 06

but I thought it was being redone.

If so, anyone have any pics to show???

Here's a few pictures of the new additions to the island, a lot of the new things are interactive. Also the caves have great special effects now and there are Pirate CMs that roam the island, interacting with guests.

Here's some more photos:

It's a great place to meet Captain Jack Sparrow, too!

Did someone say Captain Jack?

If you go into the grotto, and you see this:

...be sure to try to reach in to get the treasure a couple times...:rolleyes1

And if you see the pirates singing on the island, and the very tall pirate with the deep voice is there, hang out and see if he sings his "lament" that sounds quite a bit like a well known song sung by strange little dolls in a big building that is currently closed for renovations.... He is very funny.

And if you're on the raft with the same pirate, listen to him. Again, very funny.

He calls my son the "recessively gened lad" b/c of Eamon's red hair. (I've heard him use the same line on other red-heads, too)

I'm hoping to meet him in November!

Unfortunately, I won't be back to DL for a few years.

So what happens if you try to reach the treasure???

If you really take the time to look around there are a lot of neat little additions but thankfully other than Fort Wilderness being out of commission the original charm of TSI is basically intact.

Just a few days ago me and the lady were exploring TSI (she hadn't been over there since it was changed and it is so fun to take rookies over there) and to my surprise also in one of the caves there is a spot with jewels in a window and if you touch around the base of it a skeleton hand holding an eyeball come sout from the top and starts talking to you. Once you think it is just the hand and eye all of a sudden a mummy/zombie head jumps out at you and it is a great little scare! We both jumped back as you are not ready for the head to pop out! I had not noticed that zombie head surprise on recent visits to the island so it really got me!

I recommend going to TSI in the last hour it is open (from 4:30 to 5:30) as you will find the crowds are low over there and you can explore the caves slowly without anyone else in there often. Enjoy.

When i went there june 07 some cm's took my picture...i wonder why...

Yea! Thanks for the info...we're gonna have to go looking for Cap'n Jack...have a teenager going with us that's going to be VERY excited. lol

Does the island always close at 5:30? We are arriving in Orange County at 1:29 in 11 days!!!! (Sat May 24). I want to go straight to DL after checking in at Marriot Townehome Suites. I thought it would be a great way to unwind if we hit the island and let the kids play, then do the parade, fireworks, and Fantasmic! (10:30). The rest of the week, we can concentrate on rides.

I'm sorry, did someone say Captain Jack??? I know I heard it somewhere.......

PL is fun! We like it and haven't been recently, hm, maybe we should go next trip.....

I'm not sure, we were on the island late last week and that was when they closed the island. You can still go over up to 10 minutes before closing and then they sweep the island and take the last island dwellers back to the mainland. I would imagine for the summer the closing will remain at 5:30 but I'm only assuming. Enjoy your trip!

Thanks. My kids loved TSI at WDW. There will be 15 of us total there that day, and this sounds like a great place for all of us to unwind after the flight.
