Al Franken called golf "the gateway to corruption". It's amazing how many of these things are hatched over golf.
In antitrust law, we have a joke about "Greenbrier lapses" because so many conspiracies to ficx prices that reached conviction were launched over golf at Breenbrier resort in WV

Can we all say "Bye, Bye, Tom"? It's a bright day in the US.

One of the three ethics violations of Tom's was for the trips, I think.

He took checks from corporations. Then, qwithin 60 days of the elections, he passed that money along to the Republican party, with the names of Texas Republicans who he wanted supported. That money was then used in the campaigns. Two problems, within 60 days of the election, and corporate money used to advance the campaign, and not for administartive purposes. This arrose when Delay wanted the Texas districts redrawn, although the timing for the redrawing of the districts was not ready. So, delay got the districts redrawn, then, used the redrawn districts to increase republicans in the House. However, he is now in a fight in his own district, as a result. Poetic justice.

Everyone sing ...

"Na na na na, na na na na, hey hey-ey, goodbye"

Anyone terribly surprised by this? :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl:

My gut feeling is that he's guilty as hell, but obviously my gut has nothing to do with this. :teeth:

Hardly Bob.

It is funny, though, he is cpmplaining that it is just nasty partisan politics. What would HE know about nasty partisan politics? :confused3

Where is everybody defending him in this thread????????

I think one person actually defended him. :flower:

I will respect a jury's findings, but my gut says his actions go far beyond "normal politics" and he is likely guilty of a multitde of things that will never be tried because he has his tracks covered so well.

I am curious what will happen to Frist as well......

He is claiming his innocence and saying this a disgusting example of partisan politics and that this is just a politically motivated witch hunt. Sound familiar?

True, now pass the cigar --- you know the 80 million dollar one.

Ok, pass the cigar, but let me put on my latex gloves first. :cool1:

I have to say that all that Tom Delay seems guilty of, is beating the democrats in legitimate elections. I have watched the talking heads tonight and even those that lean towards the left have serious questions about this indictment. It seems that Ronnie Earl has leaked significant Grand Jury testimony in democratic fund raising/campaign speeches and has made it his mission in life to get Tom Delay. Delay's big crime? He has been effective. I don't think he will be convicted of anything. I agree that its a witch hunt.

I'm not a fan of Delay at all, but these charges, if you examine them at all, seem very shaky at best. There's no way he's getting convicted in this at all.

What angers me most about him, is not his social stances, not his "corruption," but his pork barrell aspects. This man said nothing in the current budget could really be cut??

It is because of people like him that our country spends so damn much unnecessary $.

Looking at the funds approved for some of these ludicrous pork barrell programs in Louisiana makes me sick.

I don't know a thing about what he is being charged with, but even if the charges are shaky, all you have to do is look at Martha. If there was ever a case of "shaky charges" it was her trial. What a joke that was! They tried to tar and feather her but now she's having the last laugh. In this day and age, how shaky a case is doesn't seem to matter in our legal system.

I'll have to read up and see what he was charged with.

I don't know anything about the quality of evidence and the applicable legal standards, so I won't comment of his potential legal jeopardy. But morally, he is a truly evil man

Tell me about Tom Delay. You must know him as a close friend if you can say that he is a morally evil man. What has he done to you to make you write something like this. Do you meet with him daily? Do you have a close relationship with him. Or is this really just your opinion? Just wondering. :confused3

Tom Delay is a morally bankrupt individual:

http://www.alternet.org/story/13140/

http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/7654774/

The end result of Delays's golfing trips to the Marianas was slave labor, sweatshop working conditions, forced abortions, and that's just for starters.

That anyone could find anything decent about Delay is beyond comprenhension. He is not the first successfull, powerful individual in Washington. There's been a potful of them since this republic was founded. But, most of them, and their followers, recognized slave labor and forced abortions are evil.

How times, and a political party, change.

Where's the shakiness? The charges are pretty straightforward.

If DeLay's PAC accepted money from corporations, like Sears, then contributed money to the RNC to be used in state elections, with directions on which state candidates the money was to be used on, then it's an illegal political contribution and a violation of Texas election code, which happens to be a felony.

The Republican's claims of a "vast left wing conspiracy" are pathetic and ridiculous to say the least.
