Soon after, I got the script for the first Mission. I jokingly said, Okay, the black man dies in the first ten pages. To his credit, Tom made sure that didnt happen, and for action films these days, thats rare.
Its not all explosions M:I: III is a full throttle action ride but its also the most character driven film in the series, Rhames says. You get to learn about Ethan Hunts personal life and since Im the only actor aside from Tom Cruise thats been in all three Missions, they beefed up my role. Youll see more of the bond between Luther and Ethan, but dont worryits definitely not a buddy film.
Luther gets to play This time, Im not just behind the computer, Rhames says. Director JJ Abrams said, If you have Ving Rhames, you have to use him. So, Ill be handling some cool CIA equipment, like a $250,000 device that fits in my pocket. I also trained with explosives for a sequence involving computer-controlled weapons. Now Luthers a black man with a gun. Buckle your seatbelts.
