Tolls - to pay or not to pay!

I for one am really glad you started this thread. We had a similar problem when we arrived on Christmas Day last year. We arrived at the same unmanned exact change toll on our way from the airport, with only $ bills. It didn't register the $ bills and we went through alarms blazing! I was really concerned, we asked a few locals and they said don't worry, Christmas Day on the way from the airport, you will be fine. On the way back to the airport we made sure we had the exact change and left the rest for our cleaner at the house. Got to the toll, DH threw in the exact change 5 cents bounced out and we were short!!! Had no choice but to go through and alarms went off again. We tried to pay the money with bills at the next manned toll along with the fee for that one, but she wouldn't take it and gave us a card to call the main office. We called when we got to the airport and the guy said 'thanks for letting us know, have a nice day!' He didn't take any details, but we kept the card and his name just in case.

We are back to the US in October and I must admit I did wonder if DH would be carted off when we tried to enter the country for jumping a toll, but this thread has helped put my mind at rest.

I would not intentionally jump the tolls, my stress levels and worrying would probably finish me off :sad2:

Twinks - who is making sure there is sufficient coins for our next WDW trip in December!

Maybe I'm missing something, but don't the tolls on the Florida Greenway have barriers? Do the barriers go up even if you don't pay, or are all of you driving really low cars? ;)

When we went a couple of years ago we came to one of the un-manned tolls and then realised that we never had any change.

As this was the first time I had driven in America I had no idea what to do, so we chucked in some 50, 20 and 1 pound coins in the hope that this might do :rotfl2:

When we tried to drive through the toll the alarm bells rang but what could we do????? I have since learn't my lesson and have got a bag full of quarters ready for our trip in August.
