Tolls between MCO and WDW?

We are renting a car for our upcoming trip on 5/31 and I was wondering if there are any tolls between MCO and WDW? We usually use Magical Express or I've been with family that has rented a car so never really paid attention.

If you use SR 417 the tolls will be $3.00(2 booths $1.50 each) Make sure you take exit #6 or else you will owe another $.50.

If you use SR 528 the tolls will be $2.25(2 booths $1.25 and $1.00)

Most folks say there is less traffic on 417 vs 528

And there are Cash/Change toll lanes on both SR 417 and SR 528. You don't have to use the rental car company's upcharged toll payment service.

Just pay attention. The Cash/Change toll lanes look somewhat like offramps. It's easy to miss them if you're not paying attention.

Do the tollways have some kind of pay-by-mail that takes a picture of your plates, or do you have to bring quarters for booths? I'd prefer to just drive through.

If you drive your rental car without a transponder through a SunPass lane, the system takes a picture of your license. With many rental companies, this constitutes "opting in" for their pay-by-plate service. You will be charged the toll AND a "convenience fee," sometimes for your entire rental period.

If you're just driving between the airport and WDW (or Universal), all you need is paper money. There are two tolls each way (SR 417 to exit 6 or SR 438 to I-4). Use a change/receipts lane. That's the easiest and cheapest solution.

On the other had, if you're driving all over the Miami metropolitan area for a week, the pay-by-plate convenience fee is worth it.

The flat daily rate deal depends on where the car is rented.

For example, in Illinois, I've paid $7 per day for an unlimited toll plan. Over the course of my 3-day rental, I would have paid around $20 in cash tolls. Not only did I more-or-less break even, but it was great being able to use the electronic toll lanes.

I've never been offered such a plan in Florida.

In Orlando, my experience with National and Alamo is they charge a convenience fee of 3.95 fee per usage day plus the actual tolls (at the toll-by-plate rate). So if you rent a car for 3 days and incur $2 in tolls per day, you are billed almost $17.85.

In that case, I would rather just pay cash to a toll collector in a change/receipt lane, for total of $6.

If rootbeer has had a different experience in Florida, I would be interested in knowing when and where.
