We will be traveling south on I-75 to the campground. How much are tolls for 3 axles? I got approx. from website, but want to be sure to take enough ones & quarters for the round trip.

There are no tolls on I-75...or weren't in April. Are you coming on the Turnpike to 429 or to I-4?

whitney,

ken/retired and happy is thinking the same thing I am (I think). :confused3

Coming down on I75 means you get on the Turnpike at Wildwood. That is exit 309 on the turnpike. At mm288 you will pay a $6 toll for 3 axles.

Then I recommend taking exit 267A south towards Tampa on Hwy 429 (another tollroad). This is also known as the Daniel Webster Western Beltway. It's exit 22 on 429.

Along the way you will go through Independence Plaza which is $2.75 for 3 axles (going from memory here). You go down to exit 8 and get off at the Western Way which comes onto the Disney World property near Coronado Springs (watch for a speed trap along this section).

Take a left at the T-intersection by CS and drive up to World Drive and turn left onto it to go through the Magic Kingdom Parking Booth (no toll here thankfully) and then once through it turn right to head down to the Fort.

This route is MUCH less stressful than going all the way down the Turnpike to I4.

I followed Ed's directions last June on my first camping trip. I have been in through the I4 route as well. Ed's backway in was definately worth the extra toll money because the traffic is much easier coming in on the Western Way.

The Western Beltway is the ONLY way to go! I ordered a Sunpass Mini cheaper tolls and no stopping which is a big plus when towing.

We do Sunpass. It's just easier to sail thru the toll plaza without stopping and hunting money. You can attatch it to a debit card to auto refill or put a preset amount on there. See deatails at www.sunpass.com

I completely agree with taking 429. Its a much better route and usually less congested especially during rush hours.

We were in Florida in Feburary, not staying at Disney:mad:or a Disney trip this time, (other than 1 day at Epcot for me and DW) we also ordered the sunpass mini. It was easy, they sent up the pass to put on windshield, we had auto replenish, was easy as pie. Picked up DS and GF at airport, drove right through sunpass lanes, also took a couple of trips to east coast on toll roads, it sure beat stopping at the booths. After we get home, just cancelled the sunpass account and got a refund on the credit card for the remaining balance. Planning on ordering sunpass again when we go in December 2014.

There is no need to cancel it. The mini should still work if you leave a small amount in the account. I set mine for 10 dollar updates. I would just check the account a month before my trip.

I'm with X and Flametamr! :thumbsup2

I use the Sunpass mini on my tow vehicle too. I subscribe to the auto refill and keep minimal dollars on it but like these guys I love rolling through the toll booths. At the Leesburg Plaza booth you have to slow down to 25 or 35mph. On Hwy 429 they use the Dade County technology where you can blow through at full speed.

I feel like a local with my Mini. :cool1:

PS - it was also great when we went to the Keys. Just make sure your credit/debit card info is current for refills and add your trailer license plate to the Sunpass profile should a "snapshot" be taken of you when you blow through the toll plaza. :cool2:

This thread has gotten a little off track. The OP asked for the amount of the tolls. I can't say for your 3 axles since I have 4 axles, but I think I paid $9.50 on the Turnpike and maybe $2.50 on 429.

And don't worry about exact change amounts, they can get what they want out of a larger bill.

Sounds pretty well the same as what I paid and I have 4 axles as well.

rajak73, I don't understand your last comment. I hope you were not offended by my comment about the OP's original question. Threads often wander from the original topic. I was just trying to get the numbers OP was looking for. No offense intended.

I appreciate all responses! We will be traveling with two other families who are pulling campers too. I'll let them know about the alternate route & let the driver's decide what to do. I'll look into getting a Sunpass as well. Thank you so much.
