having taken advantage of the recent high exchange rate, i got my spending money which obviously is in doller bills what i was wondering is do the toll booths just take coins if so can exchange for coins at sandford or in car rental place how does it work having never been before i dont have a clue many thanks.:thumbsup2

Most toll booth's are have 2 lanes green one that gives u change or the express one which you need the correct change, but there are a few unmaned, which i found out last year, we didnt have the correct money in coins and had no way of paying, so we had no option but to just to carry on driving, few week after arriving at home we got a letter from dollar, stating that we had not paid the toll booth fare, which they paid on our behalf $0.50 , but they charged us $20 admin to pay it (rip off) so my advice is to get sum money changed up at the airport before hitting the road:thumbsup2

Dollar like their "admin" fees. I did wonder what would happen if you didn't pay the tolls. I presume the bar code stuck on the rear side of the hire car tells the booths the information about the car so they can then charge you?

If you have small bills don't worry they will give you change at the booths, if you have like all $20 or $50 I would asks at the airport for a few $1.
Be careful as there are a few booths that come of the main highway especially around disney that you must have the exact .50c change.

Wow that's excessive, I read on here a few months ago that this happens all the time and they would let you get away with it around 3 times, before they would chase you for the money. I maybe going a little funny but I'm sure there was a thread on here about this.

3 years ago, travelling along 417 Central Florida Greeneway, the same thing happened to me (Dollar rental car from SandfordAirport). :scared1:
It played on my mind for a few days, so I asked a Police Officer in DD about what to do. He also said the same as earlier post, that you would be "waived 2-3 times". I wonder if this has happened with cars that have been rented from other companies, or are Dollar just chasing every last cent ?

Hi Paulie,

Always good to have a few quarters before you go, but I find that I stick to the I4 (main Motorway) and avoid the toll roads unless I'm in a hurry.

Ps I see you are in the CBR resort around the same time as me. I'll be going Belfast - Gatwick - Sanford on the 10th Aug.

Sounds like you got away lightly to me:
Florida State Law (Statute 316.1001) requires payment of prescribed tolls for the usage of toll facilities. Failure to comply with this statute may result in the assessment of a $100 or more civil penalty, three points assessed against your driver's license, assessment of court costs, suspension of your vehicle registration and/or suspension of your driver's license

Mick.

This same thing happened to us. We were given instructions by Travel City Direct of how to get from Sanford Airport to our hotel without using a toll road, but must have taken a wrong turning as we ended up at an unmanned toll both. We didn't know what to do so pulled over to the side of the road hoping that a police car might come past and tell us what to do. But nobody came by so we decided to carry on. Didn't really know what else we could do. We never received a bill or anything for this, but it did worry me for the whole holiday. It was only a 50 cent toll both. I suppose the administration of collecting it wouldn't be worth it. We are going again in September and have been collecting all the US dollars and coins we can find. We had some left over from the last holiday. It would be nice if the exchange money included some smaller change. Always have the problem going anywhere abroad of needing a small amount of money to give tips etc.

I'd always understood (from various sources) that there was a "3 strikes" policy. :confused3
