I got to LOOK at the outside of the Biergarten and move far enough into the little German shop to reach the kidcot station. Now, the German “passport CM” was really busy, but DD managed to get up to the table pretty quickly to have her stuff signed and dealyboppered, so that was satisfying, but just seconds after she’d finished with that business, she said “Mom. A Pin!” Having noticed a Mulan pin on the CM’s lanyard, she wanted to trade. (She loves Mulan and Jasmin the best of the princesses). So after a few more minutes of waiting to get his attention again, we indicated that DD would like the Germany CM’s Mulan pin in trade for her DCL pin. :lmao: You should have seen this guy’s face. It was like “WOW! A DCL pin!!!! I have been waiting ALL my LIFE for one of those! Woo hoo!” Or, something along those lines.
sarcasm.gif
Amusingly, since he was not allowed to refuse her trade, she dumped the DCL pin on him and came away beaming from her new acquisition of Mulan.

I'm impressed with your DD's shrewd trading sense. Great job, girlfriend! :thumbsup2

This reminds me that one of the very few things DH has never told me about in detail is how David Copperfield does the tricks in his show. They make the crew sign a sworn statement that they will not reveal DC's secrets to anyone, including family members. I tried to get some of it out of him (and I DO have my ways!) but he took that vow of secrecy very seriously, let me tell ya. :rotfl:

I was standing in Italy looking off towards Canada. What direction is that? I thought, based on the Epcot map, that I'd have been looking east, but now I'm all confuzzled.

As we headed into China, all of a sudden the dark skies and brisk breeze turned into really dark skies and a serious gale! The water in WS Lagoon was white-capping, we were catching some spray from that, and I lost my lime green DIS bucket hat twice to the amazingly strong wind (but DH chased it both times and got it back). My DS had been saying before we left home, “I hope we get a hurricane!” (ah, youth…duh) and I told him during this little mini storm that this was probably as close as he was going to get to a hurricane any time soon.

china_4.jpg

Looking to get out of the wind for a few minutes, we went into the kidcot station and DD got her signatures and dealyboppers fairly quickly from the sweet girls sitting at the table.

china_2.jpg

That done, we headed back out into the elements again. As we were fumbling along in the now-inclement weather, Mulan walked right past us with that quick CM-escorted, can’t-stop-to-talk-now thing. I called, “Hi, Mulan!” and she did turn around and wave, saying, “I’m going right over here!” so we followed her into Temple of Heaven, but DH saw the approximately 75 student tourists with identical shirts and decided that whatever was going to go on in there wasn’t going to be worth it, so we counter-dissed Mulan and moved on through the worsening weather to Norway. By this time, DS and I are getting more than a little annoyed with DH and begin trading looks for the next hour or so over DH’s commando attitude, and likening his behavior in various ways to his parents’ (we did this on the quiet because that would just make him mad. lol). As you can see, DH had the camera at this point, but lookie! There’s my DIShat! And, yes, I am holding it onto my head because of that darned wind!

norway.jpg

After we hit the Norway kidcot, we did take the time to go on Maelstromer, and liked it well enough for as long as it lasted (DH said, as it ended, “That’s it?” Heh.) but we skipped the movie at the end – thanks to a little tip I read here on these boards – and DH was happy to follow me out of the theater without seeing it. Even though we had shared a couple of Italian ices a little while ago, I wanted to go into Kringla Bakeri and see what they had, maybe try the school bread, but DH wanted to keep going so we could “finish up” the WS - like it was a thing to be conquered, a chore to be checked off!

Once we crossed the border into Mexico, it was clear rain was going to happen at any moment. We went into the Aztec temple and found kidcot right away. Now, we had heard way back in France that in order to get the “surprise” at the end of the kidcot trail, we’d need to have the stamps and dealyboppers from all the countries. Remember back to the UK when we didn’t know what the heck we were doing yet, and you will realize that here in Mexico we were missing that one stamp and one dealybopper. Well, the “passport CM” was sweet and, being the end of the line (as I imagine Canada to also be if one were touring WS in the other direction) asked if we were “all through.” I said that we were missing UK because we didn’t quite have the kidcot thing down at that point in the game and she asked if we were planning on going back over there to get the stamp eventually. DH quickly said “No!” and then proceeded to chat her up about So Cal being RIGHT BY Mexico. She signed DD’s passport and, overlooking the missing stamp, gave DD her “surprise” anyway. See below.

goofy_poster.jpg

DH swore that his charming banter about living so close to the CM’s home country was what made her so graciously give up the prize after all.
bored.gif
After that, DH dissed El Rio de Tiempo. The kids and I wanted to go on it, but DH was outta there. We were all even more irritated with his commando nature by now and were only slightly consoled when we told him that when we come back in a couple of years, doggone it all, we’re going on El Rio del Tiempo and seeing O Canada and the other shows we missed whether he likes it or not!

Right as we were coming out of the Aztec temple, it started to pour in huge tablespoon-sized drops. People were running for cover everywhere, but I whipped out our ponchos and we strolled (quickly) back to FW right through the rain. DD wanted to go back on Mission Space again and the rest of us agreed it would be a nice thing to do before we headed out of the park for the day. Since everyone else was looking for a place to get out of the rain, the line was longer than the last time we went on it, but with a 20 minute wait on the orange side, it still wasn’t bad. DH decided that he’d try the orange side with DS this time while I did the green side with DD. Since the wait for the green side was only about 10 minutes, we were done first and DD played in the kiddie tubes in the Mission Space Race area for about 25 minutes while we waited for DH and DS. I sat there doing nothing, which caused me to get even more tired with every passing moment.

Once we met up with the guys again, it was about 5:30 and we all really felt that it was time to head for the bus stop. DD wanted to go on Spaceship Earth again, but we told her we’d have to try to do it “next time” because we didn’t want to miss the bus. By now, though the ground was very wet, the rain had mostly stopped and it was getting sauna-like steamy again. As the bus stop came into view, we saw the OKW bus pulling up and all found enough strength left to make a run for it (yes, even with my toe) and we luckily got on without having to wait for the next one. We realized on the bus that we were all pretty hungry now, but knowing there were tons of snacks in the room helped us not panic too much. Still, it was close to dinnertime and we had to think what we wanted to do about it. Exhausted as we all were, there was NO WAY any of us wanted to go out to a restaurant. I had remembered reading here on the DIS about how you could get Giordano’s to deliver to the DVC resorts, so we called and arranged for a large special thin pizza and a small stuffed cheese pizza to be delivered within the hour. DH and DS always insist on getting a supreme type pizza, whereas my DD will only eat plain cheese pizza. They scoff, they tease, but when the flipping pizza comes – always – they end up eating a ton of the cheese pizza!! Fortunately, both pizzas were big enough that we all could have as much of whatever we liked. I’ll tell you, for both pizzas, delivered and with tip, this meal cost $40 total (yeah, try that at a WDW TS restaurant) and not only fed us until we were stuffed that night, but also served as lunch the next day (loooooove that OKW kitchen!) It was the best meal value of the trip, even though I’d faint dead away paying $40 to have two pizzas delivered at home! :lmao:

Let me go back in time for a sec to a moment we had this morning before we left for the park. As we were getting ready to head out (and watching busses and yelling “Epcot!”) the guys started talking about wanting to go to Typhoon Lagoon before the trip was over, and that made me think about the lime green boogie board that Anc96 had left for DISUNC and that he said he was, in turn, leaving for me. Huh. Whatever happened with that, anyway? No one said anything when we checked in and so it kind of just got pushed to the back of my mind until that moment. But the more I thought, the more I THOUGHT, ya know? So, seeing as we had Internet connectivity that day, I PMed DISUNC, who told me that not only should I have received the LG boogie board, but also a case of bottled water and a bag of stuff! Bell services was supposed to deliver these to my room after I checked in…if you want some more evidence of OKW bell services dropping the ball, read crossfamily’s TR, in which MY bag to HER is also not handled with the proper care!!

Anyway, after dinner, the kids and DH decided they would go down to the main pool, but my toe and I were just too wiped out (plus, I had to upload some pictures for the blog that the folks back home are waiting to see), so I stayed back at the villa while they went on. Ahhh! This turned into a couple of hours of blissful solitude, in which I did some laundry, had a couple of glasses of wine, took a nice hot, scented Jacuzzi bath, DISed a little bit, and enjoyed the silence. While he and the kids were up by the bell services desk, DH picked up my DISUNC stuff. When they all came back, DH propped up the boogie board, set the case of water on the counter, and handed me the bag. I reached in and pulled out some of DISUNC’s homemade LGMH window clings, which were awesome (and I still have two…dang it, I forgot to pass one along to Teresa!). Smiling about DISUNC’s thoughtfulness, I went to put one on the window (here it is, partially, the next morning):

discling.jpg

But DH says, “That’s not everything that’s in there, is it?” I guess I didn’t look all the way down to the bottom of the bag, no, so now I do (he must be suggesting this for a reason, right?) and what do I find???   A LGMH TRADING PIN!!!! The same one I saw on my last trip to DLR but was too dopey to buy! If DISUNC ever tries to tell you he’s a meanie or something, do not believe him. How sweet do you have to be to do something that nice for a fellow limey you’ve never even met? Now that is total dedication to the LIME! DH looked all proud for having made sure I saw this present, as if he could take some of the credit. :lmao: Here’s the pin on my lanyard the next morning as we headed out to MGM:

LGMH_pin-1.jpg

What a day!! I know it must seem long to you, too, since it took so many pages to get through it. I hadn’t been sleeping well at all since we got to WDW, despite the excellent mattresses at OKW (the pillows were just awful, though…what was up with that? They were like the size of our heads and nothing more!). DH (and isn’t this just like a man) figured he wasn’t having to pay extra for the A/C, so by god we were going to FREEZE and get our money’s worth. So, he kept the thermostat at like 70-72 degrees and the kids and I were really cold during the night. By this time, it occurred to me that I’d brought one solitary long sleeved shirt along and so I decided to sleep in that and my sleep shorts. This was the best night’s sleep I had the whole trip and I woke up much refreshed the next morning. I think the rest of the family was kind of on the other side of the hump, though, as you will see in the next installment.

Next up: An MGM morning

That's right, Cyn. You told me you knew all about the guilt trip thing. You need to play this up to get back to WDW as soon as possible.

One of the few glitches in my planning was the timing of our flights. With the 3 hour time loss, we didn’t make it to our resort until about 5:00 p.m. that first evening and we had to leave for MCO by 10:45 or so on the last morning (and we hit LA traffic going back home at 4:30 in the afternoon...augh!). So technically we did not have a full 7 days at WDW, but instead 6.25 (DISUNC, so that’s where you got that 11th day! You stole it from me!) Thing #6 We Will Do Differently Next Time: Red eye flight to MCO, evening flight back home. Looking at it objectively, in light of that, we really did see most of what was possible to see in that length of time, in spite of me hatin’ on DH’s commando-ness. Thus, here on Saturday, where I had scheduled the recommended “rest day” into our itinerary, we decided that there could be no rest for the weary and instead of resting or sleeping in, we’d go to MGM, the one park we had not yet even laid eyes upon.

We were up early, as had become our habit. I have to tell you, waking up early is already a big part of my life since I have kids to get off to school and my own classes to teach by 9:00 (and 7:30 a.m. for summer classes…what certifiably insane person came up with that brilliant idea!?) But waking up at 7:00 a.m. in WDW (which, it must be mentioned, is 4:00 a.m.!!! PDT) sure beats the heck out of jumping up to the alarm on a work morning. That OKW alarm clock still set my heart racing each morning, though, and not in a good way. I hate alarm clocks. For about a decade, I had an alarm clock with a buzzer that sounded EXACTLY like the signal some trucks make when they are backing up (high pitched “boop boop boop”) and I was traumatized for years, like Pavlov’s dog, around constructions sites, furniture deliveries, and trash pickups.
therapy.gif
Instant coffee jitters, without the coffee! I’m still recovering!

Anyway, where the heck were we? Oh, yeah! So, once again, having gotten out of bed early, we strove to make it to our park-of-choice by opening but instead got there, once again, 20 minutes after the fact. Wow, ‘professional advice’ suggested that this wouldn’t be a terribly busy day at MGM, but from the get go, it seemed a little more densely populated today than it had been at the other parks on previous days. As we walked up Hollywood Blvd., we were immediately reminded of DCA. It’s amusing. MGM is kind of like a big version of DCA. Or, maybe DCA (at least the Blvd.) is a smaller version of MGM. It's not exactly the same, but either way, it seemed like déjà vu in a lot of places.

Before we’d gotten too far up the street, we spotted a Photopass photographer and I demanded that we stop for this. DH was skeptical, but I made him stop anyway. Anc96, you will finally get to see the front side of DH! It wasn’t until we got home that DH had to admit the Photopass idea was a pretty good one and we didn’t utilize it as well as we could have (since we only had 5 photos taken at two separate locations). This would be Thing #7 We Will Do Differently Next Time. Actually, we didn’t see as many Photopass photogs as you’d think, but we weren’t looking for them, either. Next time, it’s going to be a priority. This is one of the very few pics with all of us in it (and with DH’s front and not behind).

MGM.jpg

We wanted to do the stuff at MGM that we can’t do at DCA, so we went straight to RRR, got FPs, and then got into the stand-by line because the wait was billed as 20 minutes and we figured we could do that. Now, on the bus over, DS and I were talking about RRR and he asked if it went upside down and I said that I didn’t think it did. Honestly, I don’t ever remember reading that it did….just that it was fun. Guess I wasn't paying attention! So, once we went through the queue, saw the pre-ride studio thingie, and got into the car, we were pumped, but didn’t really have an exact idea of what was going to happen other than that it was a fast rollercoaster. You can imagine what DD’s face looked like…it wasn’t as bad as before, say, BARNSTORMER :rotfl: but she was still nervous. But, dang it, we went. Having been on Screamin’ (in DCA) a few times (only a few because I’ve always had to hang out with DD while everyone else gets to ride), I really appreciated the 0-60 in 4 seconds thing (WOO HOO!) but then…WOWIE! Corkscrews, loops! What an awesome rush to start that roller coaster ride!!! DD was speechless, DS and I were totally WOO HOO! and DH was hanging onto his hat that I TOLD him to take off. We utterly loved this ride. DS and I came off of it looking at each other like WOW! He said: “I thought you said it didn’t go upside down!!!” and I said “I didn’t know it did, but WOO HOO!” and we
hi5.gif
That was about the time we remembered we had FPs and our time window was almost upon us. Yeah!!! The second time around was equally thrilling and we all agreed that this was the #1 best ride we’d been on at WDW so far, even over EE (which still totally rules). We had a momentary downer when DS realized his cell phone was now missing. Fortunately, it had fallen out of his pocket onto the seat as he got out of the RRR car and a CM at the ride’s lost and found was already holding it. Whew!

While we were waiting the few minutes to be able to ride RRR again, we had gone over to get FPs for ToT so we’d be able to do that as soon as we were done rockin’. Initially, we weren’t going to do ToT because we can do it whenever we want at DCA, but it was right there and we were also curious to see if it was any different from the one at DCA. Ok, so after RRR, we waited about 15 min before we could go on into ToT. The CM at the FP line was totally strict! I tried to hand her our FPs about a minute early and she was not having any of it. So, we waited another 60 seconds before she let us through. Now, after the fact, I’m thinking maybe we just got a boring sequence, but we all felt the actual falling part of the ride at MGM was less thrilling and had shorter drops than the one at DCA. DD and DH were like “Whew!” and DS and I were like “Uh…dud!” We’ve ridden ToT at DCA many times and the one at MGM once, so I’m not prepared to make a qualified judgment, but the MGM version didn’t seem as terrifying or stomach-jolting. However, we thought the MGM pre-ride theming was a little better than DCA’s ToT. The movement of the elevator out into the hall before the drop sequence doesn’t happen quite like that at DCA, and the theming in the queue was really interesting, too. DCA doesn’t have the mist and stuff on the trail, but DCA’s ToT has a little bit more elaborate detailing to the queue inside.

At this point, we got out the park map and schedule and I suggested LMA, which was going to start in about 15 minutes. The guys weren’t about to argue and so we headed that direction in a hurry (even more of a hurry than usual!). On our way over, we saw Kim Possible, DD’s favorite character, and did stop to get several pictures of her and Ron Stoppable with DD. Does this Ron not look exactly like the one in the cartoon? OMG, he was perfect!

kimronmer.jpg

This was one of her favorite memories of the trip. Kim and Ron were very sociable and interacted with DD for a nice amount of time. As we were approaching the stadium, we saw Lightning McQueen and Mater coming up the street.

LMandMater.jpg

LMA was a lot of fun, but gads it was hot in those bleachers. We were thanking our lucky stars we’d remembered our squirt fan that day...it got a lot of use during the show. DH brought the video camera on this day and taped almost the entire LMA show. The morning after we got home from WDW, we were already vacation-sick and immediately checked out our photos and videos and it was fun watching this a second time in our family room.

It was hot this day, though I didn’t necessarily think it was that much hotter than the previous days we’d been there. But DD was really dragging, kind of the way I was the day before at Epcot (look at this face!),

mer_hot.jpg

mgm_gate.jpg

my toe was still sore from the day before, and we all really just wanted to salvage some rest from the ‘rest day’. We were also starved, and all except DD decided that leftover pizza sounded awesome. There's a lot we didn’t see at MGM, but now that we knew we’d be back someday, we decided we’d see those things next time and headed to the bus station about 1:00. The bus showed up promptly and we enjoyed the A/C all the way back to the villa.

DH snapped this as we sat down, and weirdly, it's one of my favorite pictures from the trip. I miss the busses!

bus.jpg

Back at the villa, we heated up and scarfed down the pizza and DD had Caesar salad that DH and I picked up at Publix during the grocery trip. Then we spent a couple of quiet hours resting in which I was able to resume reading the novel I’d started on the plane over. The kids wanted to take a swim while DH napped, so I took them to the quiet pool for about 45 minutes and then we came back to get ready to go to the Boardwalk.

Next: At the Boardwalk, it's Toetoe against Chuby (or Ruck)

I have an alarm clock story too I'd like to share.... it's not pretty, but the truth never is!
My bf (at the time, who is now my ex (of dd's daddy fame) and I were in the mall one day. We were in Spencer gifts specifically. It's a fun place.. black lights, cool/weird/perverted stuff... who doesn't love it!
Well on the one side there were alarm clocks of all kinds. They Beeped, they played music, they howled like wolves! This one particular one sang. It was a chicken.. and it was cute so I hit the button and it sang to me... " Heeeeeyy.. Hooooooo.. Hey baby wake up, come and play with me...." over and over. Aww.. how cute!
Bad move. It was with my Christmas presents from DB that year so I was now obligated to wake up to this freaking chicken singing every morning. No variety.. just the "heeeeeyyyy hoooo blah blah..... " over and over and over and over... It made me  But.. he took the time to 'notice' what I admired, and went back on his own to purchase such things... and I loved him, so therefore I must love IT. But I didn't love IT. IT made me miserable every morning. I hated IT. It got to the point where I'd sneer as I passed a KFC. I hated ALL chickens now. Why did the chicken cross the road? Cause I was driving my car through it's coop to run their bleeping feathers over!!!!
Hahaha... hehe... I'm ok now. He's gone.. the chicken is gone.. hehehe.. I'm over it. Really. I am.
retard.gif
I think he did it on purpose to drive me crazy
It's a true story too.. used it for years. I now use a 'beep' type alarm and I swear I can hit it off before it beeps twice. I think the chicken made me alarmaphobic. It's a sad thing

I was so terrified of this ride. When dd was 6 she wanted to go on it.. so I did. Several times.. then several times the next time we went. On her 8th bday, courtesy of the Disney's it's your daughter's birthday and we don't care if we make you sick to your stomach team, allowed dd (and me) to go through the employess/wheelchair access door, to go on over and over again, without the line. We rode that sucker 10 times in a row!! No kidding. But a miraculous thing happened on the 7th time we went on that day.. something that had never happened before. I opened my eyes inside the ride!! Wow, it was pretty in there! Who woulda thought neon signs everywhere.. there's a palm tree in there too.. did ya see that!
So I can understand your enjoyment.. it just took me a little longer to understand.

Can you guess.. also not my favorite ride?

At this point, we got out the park map and schedule and I suggested LMA, which was going to start in about 15 minutes.
Saw this for the first time last month too. Very good show... though DD enjoyed it more than I did.

For a short day... it sounded like you did a lot.. and you had a lot of fun. Much better to make it short, than make everyone miserable by pushing them.

Can't wait for the next installment!
Thanks for sharing!!

So technically we did not have a full 7 days at WDW, but instead 6.25 (DISUNC, so that’s where you got that 11th day! You stole it from me!)
No NO NO! Because of the time difference we East Coasters get a extra day, and West coasters loose 3/4 of a day! Use PI in your calculations!

I had an alarm clock with a buzzer that sounded EXACTLY like the signal some trucks make when they are backing up (high pitched “boop boop boop”) and I was traumatized for years, like Pavlov’s dog, around constructions sites, furniture deliveries, and trash pickups.
At least now whenver you hear a truck backing up! You WAKE UP!

Wow, ‘professional advice’ suggested that this wouldn’t be a terribly busy day at MGM, but from the get go, it seemed a little more densely populated today than it had been at the other parks on previous days..
Found a few flaws with the same professional advice on my watch!

DH snapped this as we sat down, and weirdly, it's one of my favorite pictures from the trip. I miss the busses!]
Yup that is WEIRD!

:thumbsup2 HOW IS YOUR TOE NOW?????

OVERTHROW DH'S POWER! You & Ds need to take commando control & either send him on his own or make him walk in the back of the line! :rotfl: Good luck with that.

I second the over throw!!
I blame my toe! Under normal circumstances, I would kick his a...titude, but you're right, Anc...I didn't want to risk a re-injury. :thumbsup2

How sweet! If you get married, in about 10 years she will have no trouble telling you straight out that she couldn't care less. :lmao:

Great writing & great pictures! :thumbsup2
Thank you so much. I'm glad my efforts are appreciated. I'm sure it's no news to anyone that TR writing takes a lot longer than one might expect at the outset. It's a serious commitment!

Where do I go to find out how to make those. They are so cool!
I could have sworn we had a link in the FAQ to a post in which DISUNC explains it, but I looked and see that we actually don't! Maybe he will post instructions again. It was a very cool window cling! (And I still have two of them! Haha!)

That's right, Cyn. You told me you knew all about the guilt trip thing. You need to play this up to get back to WDW as soon as possible.
Working on that!!

I know exactly what you mean. I've got a cd/radio alarm clock, and I set the volume on a song that I like. Much better.

My SIL bought us a new alarm clock last Christmas that lets me wake up to a CD and I can even choose which track it plays. it. I almost always wake up in a decent mood now (notice I could not bring myself to say 'I almost always wake uip in a GOOD mood these days'. :lmao: ) Sure beats the cheese nips out of waking up to a truck backing up.

Thanks, everyone, for reading my TR. Once I finish it here, I'm going to edit and blog it for my 90 year old grandma who loves reading about our adventures, but can't you just imagine her trying to figure out what all the acronyms are? :rotfl:

The afternoon’s rest really did my toe good, but still, I’d been on it an awful lot over the last 5 days and it was still a little sensitive and kind of making me grumpy. I did my best to swallow that, though, and have a good time walking around the BW/BC area. Once we were all dressed and ready to go, something occurred to us:

There is no bus from OKW to the Boardwalk.

Now you might think at this point I’d :scared1: but DH had been paying attention the last few days to where the busses were going and how they actually got there. That, and BW is right across from MGM and as we were leaving that afternoon, he was able to make some sense of what needed to be done to make it back there later. So, really, this was one of the first times he drove at WDW that didn’t turn out to be a big drama. We got our parking permit, pulled into the lot, and headed over to Disney’s Boardwalk. From first sight, we all really liked the look of this area. Unfortunately, just about 2 minutes after we got out of the car, it started to rain and we had to dash from tree to tree to various covered areas to avoid it since I didn’t bring any ponchos on this excursion.

I think by this time we’d all gotten to the point where we’d just had too much family togetherness. If you will remember, yesterday DS and I were noting the similarities between DH and his parents. Well, at this point, DH was doing stuff to get on our nerves, sometimes purposely and sometimes just because that’s his nature. We, in turn, were doing things to get on his nerves, and so DS and I sort of naturally closed ranks against him. This happens frequently in our family, but who is taking whose side really depends on the situation. DH and DD, or DH and DS team up against me sometimes. DD and I, or DS and I team up against DH sometimes. Less often do DD and DS join forces…they don’t have many common goals that would cause them to do that, and of course it’s never exciting when DH and I show a display of solidarity against the kids because that is, after all, our job. Not that we weren’t still having a good time and a fun vacation, but we’d had five days now with no escape from each other and were just really kind of sick of putting up with each others’…uh…stuff.

A bit more family history is in order here. My in-laws, whom I really do love dearly, have ways, as we all do, in which they are set in their behaviors and naturally DH takes after them in some respects (heaven help me). My FIL, Chuck, is a big sweetie, but he exaggerates just about everything and kind of makes things up when he wants to get you to do something. My MIL, Ruby, is the most generous soul you will ever know, but she has a pretty Spartan attitude toward what’s necessary in life and is the one from which DH gets his “Oh, we don’t need to see (do, buy) that…let's go” attitude. Right about now, DS and I had had just about enough of both these inherited traits, and when DS pointed out that some of the things DH was doing were “just like grandpa” or just like grandma” he jokingly melded their names and called DH “Chuby.” I thought this was hilarious and offered my own version, which was “Ruck.” DH was far less amused than we. Haha. DS and I pretty much stopped saying this to DH after about 10 minutes, but continued to mutter it under our breath to each other the rest of the evening.

The first thing that struck all of us as we dashed out of the rain and into BWV/BWI was just how gorgeous this resort is. Very classy and, personally, I liked it even better than BC (which, at this point, we hadn’t seen up close yet, but I’ll get to that). We wandered around a bit, and DH said he could definitely imagine himself staying in a villa there next trip, and then once the rain mostly subsided, we headed out to the Boardwalk itself. it! It was still only about 4:30 when we got there, so the crowds were still light.

We decided to go through the International Gateway real quick try to ride TT once before we had dinner, but once we’d gotten all the all the way over there, it was closed because the track was wet from the rain. It sounded as if they were sending empty cars around the track (to help dry it, as DH suggested?), but the line was horrendous and the wait was stated as 120 minutes, so we said no way and headed back the way we came. There’s a little gift shop just before you go through the turnstiles at IG and, still looking for postcards, we wandered in there for a few minutes. I did find a couple of good postcards and as I was getting DH to pay for them (he’s the guy with the discount, remember), my DS held up a pin: “Hey, mom! Look, here’s your green mickey head pin.” I told him to grab it because I knew someone who could use it. DH looked at me like I’d sprouted three heads until I told him I was going to pass it on to Teresa like DISUNC had done for me. We grabbed our bag and noticed that the Friendship ferry was pulling up, so we instantly decided a boat ride would be preferable to walking back to the BW while it was still so hot and my toe was in need of some rest.

We were pretty hungry by now, and since DS had been talking for months about wanting to have dinner at ESPN Club, that’s where we went. There was short line outside and we told the hostess we wanted a table for four and we started to wait. However, while we were waiting and discussing the menu and ambience of ESPN, DD and I suddenly decided we’d had enough testosterone for one day and DH kindly suggested we split up so that he and DS could have dinner at ESPN and DD and I could find something a little more to our tastes. We’d meet up afterwards and walk all the way around BW/BC lagoon before going back to the villa.

DD and I had no idea where we were going to eat, so we just looked at different menus as we walked along the Boardwalk. The Flying Fish and Spoodles looked like I’d spend more money than a quick meal was worth and DD also mostly decided that there was nothing on those menus that appealed to her. Besides, the wait for both was like 45 minutes and we weren’t going to do that. We were running out of Boardwalk and I was really beginning to worry that we’d have to have hot dogs or something from one of the stands (which DD also did not want to do), when we came upon the Big River Brewing Co. (Yes, I kept the coaster! Heh!)

brg_coaster-1.gif

The hostess took us right in with no wait, which was excellent (especially considering as we came out the hostess was telling people it was going to be a 35-40 min wait). It wasn’t exactly relaxing in there – kind of a bustling atmosphere – but it was ok, because DD and I were together and doing our girl thing and the menu looked fine to us. The waitress brought us drinks – DD ordered a Shirley Temple, which made her feel like we were having an extra special meal, and I ordered a Melon Mojito cocktail, which made ME feel like we were having a special meal. :sunny: As far as dinner was concerned, DD was happy to order Mac and Cheese and I got the Blackened Mahi Mahi Sandwich. Unfortunately, an eternity went by and no food materialized. The waitress came by to apologize that it had taken so long. The cooks (or someone) had lost our order slip. Sigh. Ok, so in a little bit someone who was not our waitress brought the food and unsmilingly dropped it off at our table. Eh, the food was just ok, but I ordered another melon mojito and felt better about the whole situation. I guess the food really was unmemorable since the only picture I took of the entire event was of the drinks. :rotfl:

Once we finished up, we paid and walked out, and just as I was getting out the cell phone to touch base with the guys, there they were walking up to Big River. Perfect timing. We briefly lamented that our separate dinners had cost about $40 apiece with tax and tip, so it was no great bargain, but we agreed it had been relaxing for both parties and so we sucked it up. Now it was time to make our way around the lagoon because I wanted to see YC and BC up close.

The walk around the lagoon was pleasant, even if my toe didn’t really agree, and we enjoyed the atmosphere as the sun began to set and the lights came up on the Boardwalk. I liked the way they looked on the sign.

On the other side of the path was the Dolphin (the Swan, too, way over there).

The Yacht Club was very nice (at least from the outside - which I say because I never got to see the inside) and I liked the fact that all the outside rooms had patios or balconies.

We loved the walk along the Beach Club “boardwalk”. The atmosphere was great and we all said more than once that we’d enjoy staying either here or at BWV for perhaps the first part of the next trip.

Stormalong Bay also looked every bit as good as it’s reputation here suggested:

I had hoped to see the Boardwalk when it was completely dark, as I have enjoyed pictures of that, but by the time we made it all the way around, it was still only dusk. Still, the scenery was lovely from any vantage point and walking over the bridge from BC to the BW side, we were struck anew at how lovely the Epcot area resorts truly are.

bridge.jpg

DD and I had wanted to get ice cream from Beaches and Cream, but “Chuby” rushed us past the BC without letting us go in and check it out. Actually, we’d mentioned this just after dinner, but got preoccupied and forgot about it, particularly with all the rushing, but DD was unhappy about the outcome regardless. On the bridge back to the BW side, I briefly considered suggesting we go back, but my toe was starting to throb and we still had to finish the walk back to BWV and out to the parking lot before I could get any relief, so we let it go and promised DD she could get something sweet from the OKW pool snack bar.

Once back at the villa, I was DONE. Toetoe was in complete control of all the rest of the decisions I would make for the rest of the night. But DH and the kids had a hankering to hang out at the OKW game room after DD got her “something sweet” so they left me at the villa again (sigh of sweet, sweet relief!). Unfortunately, they were having so much fun I had to call them about 10:00 to ask where the heck they were. Those kids needed to get into bed! Tomorrow was going to be another early day if we wanted to be at Animal Kingdom at park opening!

Next up: A really good visit to AK, where I finally meet another DISer!
