Not really watching - it's just kind of on in the background here - but it seems that right in the middle of this pageant the Director has up and left..:confused3

I don't know if it's a scam she pulled or what, but right now things are getting a little touchy with the parents.. The parents are also very aggravated that the Director laid out a table full of "prizes" (toys) and some of the kids are crying and not doing what they're supposed to do on stage because they want the toys..

Weird..:confused3

I saw that one too - had to tune in with the promo they were showing about the director (I don't usually watch the show). Looks like she skipped out with like $20K and left a maybe a few thousand dollars behind in toys. It doesn't even make sense to me since it seemed like even if she had paid off the prizes (top prize $1K) she would have had plenty of money. But maybe she skipped out on the hotel bill and everything.

As the make-up artist said - she stole from little kids. Classy.

Oh god, I love this show!!! seriously, I have no idea why. My TV watching usually includes Dr. Who, and House and the Office, nothing like this. But I can't stop watching, it's like a train wreck. :confused3

Personally I loved the "Mommy wants you to smile and wave at the judges!" ("Oh, and NO WIRE HANGERS!!!") said through gritted smiling teeth, with death glare eyes.

But all things considered, no matter how insane the mothers may be it isn't right to steal from the girls. (and the mothers who can't do math, if you spend $1200 on a pageant and the top prize is only $600, you cannot come out ahead...)

When I watch these shows, I think all of the moms (and dads) must have slept through math class.

I will admit, a friend and I did joke about running one of these gigs when we retire. There seems to be plenty of crazy parents willing to kick out big bucks for a small return.

If they don't mind throwing money away, I don't mind catching it.

I can't watch those shows. I get to angry with the moms and figured it is just better to avoid them so I don't ruin my night. :rotfl:

I can't believe this woman did this though. Agree or not with these pageants, what she did is wrong. Did they call the cops or anything?

My favorite part of the show was when the 6 year old said that she liked swimsuit the best because she liked how her butt was shaped.

Since when do 6 year olds care how their butts are shaped?

Horrible that the woman skipped out with the money. That makeup artist guy said she took all the money and didn't pay any of the bills, so I took that as she took the prize money and skipped out on the hotel.

I never watch this show and for some reason I watched it last night. I felt very bad for the kids. I think it borders on the line of child abuse. Some of the kids are just babies. A two year old should not be made to do that. Shame on the moms! The director that left was very stupid for doing it. Did she not realize this was being filmed?? I also noticed that alot of the mothers of these girls are unattractive, overweight, and sloppy looking. I think they want to live out their dreams through their children. Really kind of sad.

She said she liked to shake her butt
not that it makes it any better!! LOL!!

I can't stop watching this show either. I agree with the train wreck comment. What are these parents thinking? The worst one was from a couple of weeks ago with the 4 year old still using a pacifier. She was spoiled rotten.

"I luxuriated across the stage." :rotfl:

I loved that little girl. To me she was the absolute cutest - but she only got a small prize. That's why I can't stand these glitz pageants on little girls. I don't undervalue poise in a lady - but a little girl "hitting her marks" looks about as soulless as a Stepford wife. I thought the mom was the only one with an ounce of common sense (an ounce, mind you, see the scene where she's getting high on the glue and doesn't once think her daughters sitting right next to her might be getting high as well), but if she continues to do pageants with her girls she's going to have to realize they will never win unless it is obvious that she spent thousands of dollars on each look and they perform like sedated Barbie dolls instead of little girls.

This show is one of my guilty pleasures. I never had a daughter and probably would never have put her throught his unless she really really wanted to and I had lots and lots of money. That said I did see a documentary years ago about these two little girls who were about 7 and did the pageant circuit. They did a follow up documentary 10 years later that I saw last year I think. It was about the same two little girls who are now 17. One little girl had quit pagents a year or two after the first show and the other girl stayed with it. The girl who quit never regretted doing pagents or quitting. She said they gave her lots of confidence and poise and you could see it. The girl who stayed in also had a lot of poise and self confidence. That is the only plus I ever hear parents and children say about the pageants. I don't know if that is enough reason to do it but it is not all bad. Also neither of these girls were basing their self worth on their looks. The girl who stayed in had so much self confidence she did not care that she could not carry a tune in a bucket. She still got up on stage and sang her heart out.

These pageants are pathetic. A bunch of unattractive moms/dads trying to feel pretty thru their kids.

I remember that documentary. However, I remember it a bit differently in that the one who quit after 5 or so years was so glad that she quit. If I remember correctly, she quit because she couldn't take the superficiality of it.

Unless it was a different show I saw :goodvibes

Is that normally what parents pay to get their girls into those pageants?

The basic entry fee for the one last night was $375......figure in room, make up artist/hair stylist, manicures (one 6 year old got a facial), $800 - $2000 for a dress, travel $, food, swimsuit, outfit of choice, photo sessions if they enter the other catagories such as most photogenic, best smile, etc. Most of them pay a coach and then dance lessons.......so yeah it could run into a lot more than that. Oh and flippers (fake teeth.....I think I heard them say those were $250) and spray on tans and hair pieces, accessories.......

One of the little girls last night who won a supreme title was due a $250 prize (if the pageant director hadn't ran off with the funds).....she got a sash, flowers and a cheap crown.......for $375 entry fee. So even without the added expenses mentioned above they were still in the hole had she gotten her money.

If it works like most pageants too......there is an entry fee for spectators to come watch (parents & family) and then the pageant will also have many businesses that sponsor it and are given advertisment in some form either in a program or signs posted in the venue. The one last night I bet most of those toys/gifts on the table had been donated from various places. Trophies/crowns are pretty cheap if you buy them in a bulk quantity. So these people who run these things all over the country (especially those who travel from location to location under the same name) know what they are doing they are making a ton of $$$$$$. I'm pretty sure the host hotel lets them have the space they use very cheap or comps it as they are listed as the host hotel in all the pre-pageant advertisment and are where the attendees are referred to for accomodations.

I watch this show too, and as a mom of a 7yr old dd I don't think it is something I would do (but when my dd sees it on tv she begs to do one :confused3). Anyway, my point is that most activities that parents put children in cost way more than any "prizes" they will get from winning. My dd is an all star competition cheerleader. Her team practices 12 mos per year at $200 per 2mos, they travel to 6 competitions per year and each one cost btwn $200-$500. If they win they get a tee shirt, trophy and banner for the gym. That is it. We have her in it because she has fun, it gives her confidence and keeps her active and fit. I would venture to guess (or at least hope) that those are the same reasons that motivate the pagent moms. Although from watching that show I'm not really sure of that
