Its easier to determine whether a child is 3 or under than it is to figure out whether they have a lazy parent..

I'm not sure if there is a rule or not to be honest.. Actually I always see signs at public pools that you have to shower before going in the pool..how many people do that??

Not at all. Cuppycake and I were having a conversation.. I was commenting on Cuppycakes comment that they should make a rule regarding Lazy parenting. i.e. Those parents that might not have potty trained children but still don't wear swim diapers..or don't make effort to get their potty trained kids to the potty regularly before & during their swim time... those folks require rules like this to be made for all.

No need to get your swim diaper in a bunch..

Yet those potty trained K kids have at least three accidents happen in that class during the school year (as an average.) It can happen for multiple reasons, all of which can also occur in WDW. Accidents happen! Are you willing to ruin the vacation (or day) of hundreds of other people because you don't want to put a swim diaper on your newly (in the last year) toilet trained child? I'm not. Call them swim pants and be done with it!

But, you do realize that by this logic, even FIVE YEAR OLDS would need to wear "swim pants"??

Why isn't potty trained POTTY TRAINED?? Why is my "newly potty trained" toddler any more prone to accidents than the rest of the population? I just don't get it?

Maybe I should have my 6 year old wear the "swim pants" -- after all he's only been potty trained for 4 years now...

We went in November. My dd had been potty trained since November the year before (just before her 2nd birthday in early December). It was not an issue -- she didn't poop in the pool, she didn't pee in the pool. We got out and went to the toilet when she needed to go.

Everyone in our house is potty trained. We don't own diapers of any kind and we are not buying any. When Disney has a rule, a rule that states an age that my kids fall under, then I will discuss it. My kids are not diaper age -- they stopped being diaper age when I bought that last pack of pull-ups in October of 2005.

Now we have closed 3 pools over the last 6 years. My ds has a very sensitive gag reflex -- if he chokes on the water, he will vomit. I try to get him out if I see it happening, but it's not always possible.

I didn't want to mention this but one of my kids is the same way and we have closed a pool once. Public pools are just that -Public. You are essentially bathing with strangers. I have no way of knowing if you wipe well, or even at all. To me that is just as icky. Ever stand near someone who smells so bad and you know it is from lack of washing and then they are in the pool an hour later? Where do you think all that stink and dirt is going? Blech!

The thing is, the pool can be closed for so many reasons... not just a toddler having an accident in the pool. Someone did say a disney cast member told them a child had an "accident" but I would guess that term is used for any incident be it vomit or poop or blood ... all cases when the pool must be closed for a time. It would be sensible to assume the cast member cannot actually say why... especially if it was a child accident regardless if they had on swim pants or not.

I have never been to the park when a pool was closed. I would imagine disney would give an alternative on the rare occation it does happen.

The only incident anyone cited about a pool causing serious issues was not caused by lack of swim diaper but poor pool maintience

I guess it's hard to come through clearly on the internet...I'm not UPSET...It doesn't matter to me what others *think*...As a (mostly ) open minded person, I'm seriously trying hard to understand the logic....that's all.

I'm hoping that someone can make me "get it".

Sorry, I'm not trying to be rude.......but are you saying that a newly potty trained 3 or 4 year old is not any more prone to accidents than a seven, eight, or nine year old? Or an adult?

My experience is that little kids sometimes have accidents, especially when they are excited, adults generally do not, and I'd rather be safe than sorry.

None of my kids were potty trained by the age of 3 so I never had to deal with this, but IMHO it is absolutely ridiculous to put a swim diaper on a fully potty-trained two year old. I have never heard of a pool stating that kids under 3 must be in swin diaper even if potty trained. I know our community one certainly doesn't.QUOTE]

Our community pool has the "under 3 = swim diaper" rule, as does the pool where DS2 takes swim lessons. The rule is meant to save the pool managers/owners grief since they have to shut down the pool for at least 2 hours to chemically treat the water and make it safe to swim in again. With swim lessons, that's 4 half hour swim classes with 2-8 kids in each that would have to be canceled and rescheduled (which we most likely wouldn't know about until we drove the 30 min there-all dressed and ready) which would make for a lot of irate parents. Where we take swim lessons, they have actually made it a rule that your child must wear a fabric (reusable) swim diaper, rather than the disposable ones (disposable ones don't hold much in as well as tear off if you try and rescue your child by pulling on the swim diaper)
