We are cruising in a month and my youngest (3yo girl) is newly potty trained. I know the kids clubs bathrooms are kid sized, but I concerned with the bathrooms in the cabin, wondering if I need to bring a stool for her to use in the cabin?

Does anyone have experience with situations like this? Do they have stools I can use or should I pick one up for the cruise?

The stateroom toilet seemed pretty low to me, so I don't think she'd need a stool. I would, however, flush for her once she's left the room--it's very loud--like an airplane toilet. Also, a tip for automatic flush toilets--put a post it note over the sensor so it doesn't go off prematurely.

Meh, we are cruising with our potty trained 3 year old in December. I don't think it's a big deal to lift her on the toilet if need be. However, thanks @Geomom for the noise tip - I'll have to warn her before she flushes so it doesn't scare her.

We helped our son up when he was that age. He needed help with flushing and hand-washing, anyway, so we were always hovering anyway! Even when we used to pack the travel potty seat, it was never used much. I can't imagine packing a stool. With all the activities you do out of your room, you may not be using your stateroom bathroom all that much! Good luck!

Thanks for the feedback! It's good to know about the noise level when flushing, will definitely have to tell my other 3 that as well so they are not surprised the first time they use the bathroom.

The problem I have with my 3yo is that she doesn't want help she wants to do it herself, and I just get worried that it would lead to an unfortunate incident . I may have to do the start ked towels as a worst case scenario. But hopefully it will be low enough for her to manage!

Perhaps in a cabin, she will accept your help.

I don't recall any automatic flush toilets on the ships. Landside, yes, but not onboard. (My memory could be mistaken)

I believe you are correct. In the cabins you need to close the lid in order to push the button. In the common areas, you still need to push the button (some toilets have the button higher than the lid height.)

Yes, I was just giving a general tip for traveling with kids as my youngest feared having the toilet flush on her for many many years.

My daughter is older now but when she was that age we brought a portable potty seat to put on the toilet so she wouldn’t feel like she was going to “fall in” :) It was easy to store under the sink, there is a little ledge under there where it fits nicely.
And that always worked great for us!
Have fun!

We brought a portable (folding, even) potty seat to make the toilet opening smaller for our then-2-year-old on our first trip. She could get herself up by herself, but was scared of falling in. But there's no way a kid that little can reach the sink, so you will have to help with hand washing, as stated. And the doors are heavy and kinda slam - honestly, I think you'll have to find a way to supervise the whole operation, if possible.

Good luck!

You could get the folding plastic stools at Walmart, Target, HomeGoods, etc. They're very sturdy and would lay flat in your suitcase. That would help with reaching the toilet and the sink safely and independently.

The Legoland hotel room bathrooms include both a step stool and a double-seat toilet and I was surprised that Disney didn't do the same.
