Toddlers and Tiaras........O.M.G.

And the 21-month old went for a manicure, too. Last week there was a 6-year old chugging energy drinks like water. I think she had 3 of them.

Your son is only 6, so I'd say he's still young enough to get away with it if he's into dinosaurs!

and how old is too old to "get away with it"?:confused3 :rotfl:Almost sounds like it is a crime or something:rotfl:

It does sound like the show moms are waaaaaay over the top and treating ther children like dolls instead of children. I just don't know what that has to do with boys and nail polish:upsidedow

Well, I know that at a certain age, maybe by 10 years old, kids become critical of each other and maybe his friends would make fun of him for having dinosaur claw toe nails, like it's babyish. Honestly, there's no "too old" if you don't mind what others have to say.

As for nail polish on boys, I'm old fashioned in that I never considered putting nail polish on my boys. That's for girls. The only boys I see wearing nail polish are the goth boys, and they wear black, and that's out too. But if others want to let their sons wear nail polish, more power to them!

Funny I have heard kids being critical and teasing pretty harshly even in kindergarten--but I am glad to know that is where your "get a way with it" idea is coming from. DD is naturally bothered by any kind of teasing which, sadly, makes her a frequent subject for ridicule. DS, on teh other hand, rarely care what other's think--which means kids have no fun teasing him and generally don't bother. He is 11 now and still wears polish pretty often (and is not "goth" it is actually cracking me up trying to picture him as such:lmao:) but the only thing any KID has ever said to him is to ask in a nice way why he is wearing nail polish. He just shrugs and says he likes it and the conversation ends there. Adults can be pretty obnoxious sometimes though. Mostly they like to very loudly (with the clear intent of being "overheard" comment to each other in negative ways about it. DS generally rolls his eyes at me in such situations:rolleyes:).

What?

My son did like to have his nails painted as a youngster- and at the company Christmas party when he was 3 he wanted a doll not a truck (we made sure he got the doll- despite Santa's objection) Another Mom in the line said to her husband, "See, that little boy got a doll." and the husband made some stupid comment about how HIS son would not be playing with dolls.

This reminds me of "That 70s Show" when The father, Red, is yelling at his son Eric for playing with dolls. Eric angrily responds "They are action figures!" I know growing up in the 70s my sisters and I would take our brothers GI Joes as dates for Barbie. They were much cooler with their Kung Fu grip than Ken.

I have never seen a young boy with polish (or a ponytail) so perhaps it is a regional thing. My 16 yr old dd has many male goth friends and I have seen piercings, tattoos, gauges and makeup but no polish.

when my DD was about 3, her boy BFF was jealous of her polished toes, so his mom painted them with a bright but dark blue polish. during their swimming class, some boys started to tease him but then one of the instructors told him, "cool toes, dude!" today he is a super jock & still supersweet! maybe i would have thought it was weird but once it was done, it was so harmless & made him happy!

It seems like these mothers all think THEY are Miss America. Apparently most of them never looked in a mirror!
I just saw this show for the first time last week, and I was surprised by the moms and the pagent locations. The junk they need to dress the girls requires a whole vanload of stuff . . . but a whole bunch of the parents look like they're dressed to run up to Walmart, and the hotel ballrooms . . . well, they look kind of like our high school proms, which were held in the gym back in the 80s. I've never been involved in pageant type stuff at all, but I would've thought that events that require thousand-dollar dresses would've been held somewhere a little nicer. Like maybe a middle school cafeteria.

It all struck me as very odd.
I didn't take it as homophobic either. I think painting a little boy's nails is weird.
Yeah, I agree that painting a little boy's nails is weird. (Exception: Halloween costume, in which he is a dinosaur and needs the green nails.) How old was this boy? Was he old enough to have a grasp of sexuality? Why do we assume he was gay? Without having seen the show, I'm thinking that the mom would've chosen to paint his nails -- not he himself.

And homophobic is the stupidest word ever. "Phobic" means afraid. I don't know anyone who's afraid of gay people.

I've had a few -- emphasis on few -- high school boys who painted their nails black. But it wasn't JUST nails. It was part of a whole Gothic package thing. Actually, now that I think on it, it's been a couple years since I've had any students (male or female) into that style. I guess its 15 minutes are up.
