My beautiful little princess will be going to WDW when she is 18 months old.
Thanks to this site I now have Brenda Bennett's email address. Would love to hear from anyone who has taken small child with PKU to the parks and or the Disney Cruise.princess: : Proud Grannie.

Hi and welcome to disABILITIES:wave:
There may be some lurkers reading here who haven't posted yet, but as far as I know, you are the first person to post about a person with PKU.

I hope you are able to get the diet that she needs.
Something else to consider is possibly shipping some food to yourself at the resort if there are some non-perishable items that can't be bought easily. I don't know where you are staying, but the moderate and deluxe rooms have refrigerators in the rooms. The Home Away from Home (DVC) resorts have refrigerators, microwaves and toasters in the studio rooms and full kitchens in the larger villas.

I realize that at such a young age we will be able to bring most everything she needs, and we have been in touch with the Disney People through our Childrens Hospital in Ottawa. Just wanted to touch base with someone who has visited the parks with a child that has such severe restrictions to thier diet ! All has been very positive so far , we don't think it will be a problem...thanks again for your promt reply:thumbsup2

well actually they are now aged almost 16 and 26 yrs old hannah and heidi, when the eldest was 8 yrs old we took her to walt disney world and on a 4 night cruise and managed very well since we took our younger daughter to wdw in 2007 and found out that the icecream parlour on mainstreet has ricedream icecream that is fine for pku and the liberty tree restuarant with character meals also caters for pku if you ask to speak to the chef he has in the kitchen pku low protein pasta and low protein bread rolls also the rice dream milk and ice cream and a low protein cheese slice, we also had the same at prime time cafe in mgm studios it was fantastic

If you need somewhere to heat or prepare her food, the baby care centres all have basic kitchen facilities. Mouse Planet has a very informative page on baby care facilities, complete with photos of the centres in each park.

Hope this helps and have a wonderful trip! :goodvibes
