Toddler Leash

went out and bought the blue back back one! I love the doggy one but sometimes he gets weird about stuffed animals.. its tiny but cute.. i wouldnt want something huge on him anyway.. he has been carrying it around all day but dont u know it is missing the leash part.. AWESOME my luck of course.. and it was the last one on the shelf ughhhhhhhhhhh

We have the monkey backpack and we occasionally use with my son. He likes it, but at some point he always decides to spin around and wrap himself up in it. Or he'll run around me and wrap me up in it.

When we do use it, up until the spinning begins, I put the loop around my wrist and then hold on to a part of the tether-leash-whatever closer to the back pack end. That way he has some freedom, but we're not tripping people or getting hung up on something.

When we first got ours I was a little embarrassed to be using it. It always makes me think about the SNL skit with Mike Myers where he's "Philip" the hyperactive kid attached to the jungle gym with a harness.

But since we've had it I've noticed two distinct reactions.
1) People without kids (or at least not traveling with them) kind of smile and seem amused. (especially if DS or I are entangled due to to the spinning)
2) People with kids ask me where they can get one. I've basically been traveling the country advertising for Wal-Mart.

That one is cute we were looking at that one.. i like that one or

We have this one for our DD and she loves wearing it! It helps that she loves Dora the Explorer & her Backpack! We practiced at home a few times before our trip to get her used to it and by the time we go to Disney, she was so excited to wear it. We explained to her that she could only wear it while walking outside of her stroller, so it became special for her to wear it. We like that it has two straps, one that goes across the chest and one that goes across the belly, so that if your little one tries to pull away, the pressure is evenly distributed across their body. We never let her walk away from us while wearing it. She had to walk next to us, but having that security of knowing that if she did try to take off (which, yes, did happen a few times), we could keep her within reach & sight. We did not let her wear it when crowds got heavy though. She got in the stroller at that point.

I have a FP one with an elephant on it for my youngest DD (1.5 years) and have to figure out something for my middle daughter (5 years but ADHD). I also have a stroller reserved just in case one or both of them get's tired. The baby for the most part though will be in the stroller.

I bought the monkey backpack from Walmart for our trip when my son was 2. The stinker refused to wear it so we didn't force the issue but I was a stress-case every time we got into a crowd. I would definitely recommend it if your child is cooperative about it. I also recommend the tattoos and illuminated necklaces as well. All of them are cheap and could save you from a crisis!

Who cares what anyone else thinks? As the prior poster aptly stated, "better leashed than lost". I hate it when a thread about safety (like the one about whether to bring young boys with you into the ladies room or leave them alone outside) dissolves into petty nonsense because strangers think they have a right to tell you how to keep your kid safe in one of the biggest, most crowded environments they'll probably ever encounter. Do these people really think I'm going to base my kid's safety on their opinions? Yeah right.

We used one like the Baby on Board Tot-A-Long for our youngest when he was 2 (10 yrs ago). He was our hider and was very very quiet about it too. He scared the begeezies :scared1: out of us a couple times. Needed something for piece of mind. He wore it on his wrist and when that bothered him it went through a couple belt loops. He loved it. It gave him some freedom and security but boy did we get some ugly stares and remarks.
