My 2yo has a bit of a fever (101.7 under the arm). I checked it around 7:30 and gave him some ibuprofen. He wasn't really acting sick, but he felt warm. So he's sleeping now and is covered in his normal fuzzy/warm blanket. Should I not cover him with the really warm blanket? Would that make him too hot? I've used it before and it really traps the heat in. He's wearing light-weight pajamas.

Hum, I do believe a warm blanket is not a good idea with a fever, keep him comfortable but I wouldn't cover him with a heavy blanket incase he gets warmer.

When my dd gets really feverish, I cover her with a REALLY warm blanket and rock her (I cannot go to sleep whenever she has a fever). I give her tylenol and hold her until her fever breaks.

I know many people who place their kids in cool baths, but my dr always said fevers were good (up to a certain point) and that toddlers have a higher tolerance for fevers than adults.

I buy the temperature strips and place one on her forehead. If she gets too hot, I go to the emergency room (like 104), but most of the time, giving her medicine, wrapping her tightly and rocking her will get the fever to break.

Good luck....it's always a long night when little ones are sick!

I wouldn't put much cover on him. maybe just a light sheet. Heavier cover can make his temp stay up.
I hope your little sweetie feels better soon.

Well he's asleep and went down just fine. So he's going to stay sleeping in his bed. Maybe I'll just cover him with a sheet.

I think he will be fine with the blanket. Just keep a check on him and as along as his fever is going down with the tylenol...I wouldn't worry.

We always just covered our children when they had fevers with a light sheet.
I hope your little one feels better soon .

From Medline:

When trying to reduce a fever:

DO NOT bundle up someone who has the chills.
Remove excess clothing or blankets. The environment should be comfortably cool. For example, one layer of lightweight clothing, and one lightweight blanket to sleep. If the room is hot or stuffy, a fan may help.
A lukewarm bath or sponge bath may help cool someone with a fever. This is especially effective after medication is given -- otherwise the temperature might bounce right back up.
DO NOT use cold baths or alcohol rubs. These cool the skin, but often make the situation worse by causing shivering, which raises the core body temperature.
Drink cool liquids, as tolerated.

Also from experience spending many nights in the ER, they will not allow you to have a blanket until they are sure you do not have a fever.

It's not supposed to get as cold as it has been here, Beth. If he were one of my kids, I'd use his regular blanket he's used to, more for the self soothing if he needs it later. I'd not tuck in in around him and let him kick it off if he gets too warm.

I hope he's 100% in the morning.

A sheet sounds perfect. You don't want to overheat him, but you don't want him to be cold and shiver. Glad he's sleeping peacefully and hope he feels better :)
