Yep, can't believe it has been 20 years ago today since we first set foot onboard a Disney cruise ship....the beautiful Disney Magic's Maiden Voyage! It was our first cruise ever and we have been hooked ever since. If you want to see what the personal navigators looked like back then head over to the Disney cruise line blog. Scott posted our personal navigators and some other handouts from that first cruise.

HAPPY ANNIVERSARY Disney Magic!!!!

HAPPY ANNIVERSARY Disney Magic!!!!

WOW!!! You're right, Mmouse37! And I had not even thought about that! I made my 2 young teens get up at 3am to drive from the Orlando area to Port Canaveral to see the Magic come in from Italy for her first time home to PC! It was awesome!! And then we sailed on the Magic the next year. It was and IS the BEST!!!

That is so cool!!! I would have done the same thing with my kids!!! We were so lucky to be onboard her MV. Our kids are now grown and they take their kids onboard DCL....the tradition continues!!!

Isn't that the BEST?? My kids are all young adults now, and my DD#1 and her DH have 2 little girls. The girls have already been on 2 Disney cruises! And my 2 youngest, who are rather um.... tough customers to win over...... still LOVE, love Disney Cruise Line! I would love to be able to take the whole crew on a cruise, but there are so many now! ;)

I get it...two of our three kids and our grandkids plus their friends are coming with us on the Magic in September. It will be one grandchild's 3rd DCL (she's not even 3), one's 2nd DCL (just 3 years old) and first for our littlest one (9 months). Our other daughter is a teacher and can't get time off in September.

Can't wait.

I was fortunate enough to do a shakedown cruise on the Magic. A good friend was a cast member at the travel company, and they use them as guinea pigs. It was a wonderful experience, even though we did have to fill out a really long survey. I wish I could've done the maiden voyage also!

There were many, many people on the MV that were upset that DCL didn't do something "special" for the official MV, especially when they were showing on the in room TV the previous VIP cruise with daytime fireworks and celebs and other cool things. There was no real recognition that it was the The MV. MV of the Magic was tons of fun but had some issues. It was our first cruise ever so I really had nothing to compare it to. I just knew I loved what I was seeing and feeling and knew I wanted to do it again and again!

We were lucky enough to do a shake-down for the Dream and then the MV.

Were you traveling with a cast member on the Dream? And if not, did they still give you a list of tasks to complete and a long survey to fill out?

Yes, friend of a CM (we had to pay for the cruise) and it was titled a Boys and Girls Charity cruise where all the proceeds went to the Boys and Girls Club of Orlando but it was also used as a test cruise before the official MV of the Dream. We did not have to fill out anything. There was another cruise after ours and before the MV of the Dream as I remember we stayed in Port Canaveral for a couple days between the cruises.

I guess if they charge you for the cruise, it wouldn't be very fair to also make you complete a task list or do a survey. Some of the things we had to do were kind of odd like flushing the toilet three times in a row in a short period of time, and ordering room service at very specific times. I always suspected that they had quite a few people order at the exact same to see how room service would cope. It was strange but also fun.

Very interesting!!!

On the majority of our cruises we had encouraged other couples and families to come along and give it a try and every one of them has become hooked on DCL. With our cruise on the Magic later this month we will be traveling with six new people to DCL in our group. You hope they enjoy it as much as you do because it is a big money item and I know I would feel terrible if they hated it!
