I am not a Sarah Palin fan but did anybody think Matt Lauer was more than a little disrespectful this morning.

I really think that it was an insult to women.

What Letterman said to me is close to as insulting as what Imus said, yet Matt seemed upset that Sarah can't take a joke. And then accused her of being in bad tast with her comment.

No politics here, but to me I was really kinda upset by his stance.

I agree with you. I was disappointed in Matt and the way he interviewed her. Think David Letterman is totally tasteless in his "joke", too.

I totally agree and think David Letterman was beyond insulting when he made that comment and then try to cover it up like he was talking about the older daughter - even that is tasteless. I don't blame the Palin's for getting upset about him trying to make "jokes" about something as tasteless as sex with young girls. And I was very disappointed in Matt Lauer this morning for trying to poo poo it away and make it seem like Palin is making a big deal out of nothing.

I think he asked the relevant questions. He was just doing what he always does - asks the questions that need to be asked.

She needs to be called on the "14 year old, rape, blah blah blah...". Letterman sincerely addressed that. He admitted the joke was in poor taste and clearly some writer made a mistake in which DD was at the game.

I was also waiting for someone to address the ridiculous and unnecessary statement by Stapleton that Willow would be best served to be kept far away from Letterman. That one statement shows me they are just hyping and spinning this to get .as much media attention as possible. First, Letterman did not extend the invitation to her, if I remember correctly. Either way that one is really over the top.

Palin looked like a fool spinning and exaggerating.

I think most reasonable people have her number...she will do anything to increase her time in front of the camera.....

Dave made a major blunder, but you watch who handles it gracefully from here on out.

I agree with you here, he was NOT talking about Willow, he was speaking of Bristol. I don't feel he made a major blunder, he just made a joke and Sarah Palin went overboard on it.

I do not understand the statement.

If my child was insulted to that level, you would be darn sure I would keep the kid as far away from that person.

I do not think it meant he is an ofneder, more that he is offensive.

You should watch "Good Morning America" instead. They addressed this on yesterday's show and Chris Cuomo was visibly disgusted by it all and did not think the apology was sincere. Chris Cuomo has a young daughter, which I think added to the reason why he found Letterman's "joke" offensive, but he may have found it offensive even if he didn't have a daughter.

No politics from me either; just an observation from yesterday's GMA.

I do agree with that take, however, I think the statement was made in such a way it could be open for other interpretations AND to purposely incite more of this hype. I think most of us know how it was meant, but it was also meant to leave open that lesser meaning as an excuse.

Matt Lauer did not seem to imply it was open. Matt Lauer basically accused her of making coments on the same level asa Letterman.

I think that anyone who makes a crude comment about women is just plain disgusting. Letterman is no exception. There is no need to demean women and it is not funny.

I do not watch Letterman because I do not like his brand of humor. This comment just validates my opinion of him.

Matt Lauer should also be ashamed of himself for poo-pooing this incident.

I can't help but wonder what Imus is thinking about this, but I guess there are two sets of standards depending on who makes the comment. I think Letterman should be terminated just like Imus.

well, I think many people know exactly what was implied with that statement. If you interpret it that way, then it is on the same level.

your interpretation is another way it could be viewed and is valid, but I think the Palins/Stapleton meant to imply much more - with a wink and a nod, of course. It was meant to add to the hype and the fervor of her already indignant and riled up supporters - and to add to the hype that will lead to even more media coverage.

I just one to make one more point.

I think Letterman also owes AROD an appology.
I hope he did mean the older daughter if he didn't is he calling Arod a pedofile.
I mean you can call AROD a cheat, but the rest is going to far.

I think Letterman just screwed up all the way around. I really think he needs to sincerely apologize to everyone involved. Then fire his writers

Matt didn't "poo poo' the incident. He took it very seriously, he was just keeping Palin honest....he would have done the same if he were interviewing Letterman. Many of her statements are ridiculous and over the top and she needs to be called on them. When they put out statements like the one Stapleton made, I think it fair to say "that is low, is that truly what you meant???"

Are you kidding me? She did NOT go overboard on it. If anyone said something like that about my children, I'd be ready to scratch their eyes out.

Doesn't matter if Letterman was talking about Bristol or Willow, he was just TOTALLY WRONG. I didn't think his statements were humorous at all. They were absolutely disgusting.

Letterman's a jerk. If he were a real man, he'd make a public apology, but he's not, so he won't.

He said the girl that went to the baseball game that was Willow. I would go overboard to if someone was making jokes about my 14 year daughter getting prego.

If this had been one of the Obama girls he had "joked" about. I bet CBS would have canned him right there on the spot.

Okay color me confused here, but I read over the Top 10 and most of the jokes were lame. However, I saw absolutely nothing that mentioned a child or anything that even insinuated rape or sex with young girls.

What am I missing? Can someone please point me in the direction or just type out what it was he said that got everyone so upset? :confused3

Personally, I think the response from Palin, about how she needs to keep Brooke from Letterman to protect her was a bit dramatic and over the top. Talk about overstretching something and being histrionic. :sad2:

Of course, if what I read is not all of it and there was something else horrible and disgusting said by Letterman, then I may view her comments in a different light.

Palin is not the issue here. Her daughter is. Palin's daughter was not deserving of Letterman's comments. If Letterman made that comment about my daughter, I don't think I would be as restrained as Palin. Lauer wasn't doing his job. He was playing politics.

I wonder how Letterman would react if someone had made that comment about his wife or daughter.

does anyone remember the SNL skit that implied incest in the Palin family? What did Palin do then? Not only did she give them a big old pass, she went on the show all smiles and making nice!!!!!!

I think it is very telling that now that she is out of the spotlight, she makes such a huge deal out of this. You watch - Dave will let it die down and she will hype and ride this out for everything she can get out of it.

This isn't so much about her family, it is about how much media attention she can get out of it and how long she can keep her face in the news!!!!!!!
She isn't upset as much as she is eating this up....and her appearances are proving that!!!!

she is all about staying in the spotlight!
