On November 12, 1954, Ellis Island closed after processing more than 20 million immigrants since opening in New York Harbor in 1892.

On November 12, 1987, the American Medical Association issued a policy statement saying it was unethical for a doctor to refuse to treat someone solely because that person had AIDS or is HIV-positive.

On November 12, 1990, Japanese Emperor Akihito formally assumed the Chrysanthemum Throne.

On November 12, 2001, an American Airlines flight crashed near New York's Kennedy airport, killing 265 people.

Now that's what I call a lot of processing. No wonder so many people got their names mixed up. And..............

Hooray for the AMA on that decision.

How was your weekend, Deb? And thanks for today's lesson.

Hi Kathy!!

Yes, Ellis Island is amazing. I read somewhere that about 1 out of every 4 Americans had ancestors that were processed through Ellis Island.

Weekend was good. Kids were out of school on Friday, so I took a day off and we went to the Science Station in Cedar Rapids. The IMAX theater was showing "Space Station" -- it was pretty cool. Then they had their annual piano workshop at their music school. Saturday was just hanging at home, Sunday was church and going to the library.

How was your weekend?

Well, I 1 of those 4 who had grandparents come throught the Island, One from Germany and one frome Ireland. Not sure if the Canadian grandparents did, but I assume they had to go through something.

Hate to admit it but I lead a very lazy existance the last 4 days. On Friday, I never even got out of my nightgown all day. Got to get rested for that trip you know.

The Science Center and IMAX sounds really cool. Glad you had a good time.

Nightgown days are my FAVORITES, Kathy!!

(But whenever I try to do that, it never fails. Someone decides to "pop in" unexpectedly at our house. I've even resorted to hiding in the bathroom and telling the kids to be quiet and pretend that no one is home!!:p )

Thanks, DEB:) :) . Ellis Island is really a "must see" for anyone getting to NYC!!!!!!!!

Ellis Island was a huge part of this country's history, wasn't it?

Thanks for doing this Deb. I watch for these history posts every day.
