On July 31, 1948, President Harry S. Truman helped dedicate New York International Airport (later John F. Kennedy International Airport) at Idlewild Field.

On July 31, 1972, Democratic vice-presidential candidate Thomas Eagleton withdrew from the ticket with George McGovern following disclosures Eagleton had once undergone psychiatric treatment.

On July 31, 1995, The Walt Disney Company agreed to acquire Capital Cities-ABC Inc. in a $19 billion deal.

On July 31, 1997, New York City police seized five bombs believed bound for terrorist attacks on subways.

I remember that Eagleton thing, but I sure don't remember the bobmbs in New York.

Thanks, Deb.

wow !!! I don't remember the bombs either...

Very interesting. I didn't know about the bombs either.

I seem to remember a bunch of men being arrested over a terrorist plot to blow up the Lincoln and Holland Tunnels during rush hour. I know the plan was to cripple NYC.

I wonder if this is the same incident?

BTW, thanks, Deb!

I always felt bad for Eagleton.

Thanks for doing this, Deb :)
