Toasters/toaster ovens

On the way back from visiting relatives this weekend I was thinking of ways DS and I can save money on our trip next June. Have any of you ever taken a toaster or toaster oven to use in the room? Of course it would be unplugged except when in use. What all did you use it for?

We didn't take along any food preparation appliances, but the food court has toasters and a microwave that are available for you to use at no charge.

Yes, my husband and I have taken a small toaster (along with a 9-volt cooler, in which we packed the toaster for travel) for 2 trips to Disney. We made (not to sound sarcastic!) toast and toasted bagels for breakfast. We find that we cannot eat 3 restuarant meals per day and don't want to take the time in the AM for a sitdown breakfast. So we just whip ourselves up a quick breakfast before going to the parks. I am also addicted to coffee, so like to have some milk in the room for my AM fix.

We didn't get in to fixing anything more elaborate than breakfast and sandwiches for dinner once or twice.

Hope this helps. Have fun.

I highly recommend taking a toaster!! We try and take when whenever we travel. I picked one up at Walmart for $6.88 and that way if we "have to" leave it somewhere- like if we go shopping and we end up not having room in the suitcase for the toaster on the way home- we aren't out alot of money. We've went to Marriott Old World Center a few years ago and just took the old one we had for years and left it there on purpose. Pop Trats are what we like. And bagels would be good-or even just plain toast. Its so worth it!!

Snackmasters (those things that make triangle pocket sandwiches are great too - usually you can pick one up for under $10!

What a great idea? I hadn't thought of those. I will be sure to get one of those.

I also have a one cup coffee maker that has only had water in it so no coffee aftertaste. I think I will bring it to make instant oatmeal and instant grits.

Instead of a coffee maker, which usually has breakable glass parts, consider getting an electric kettle. I've had mine for 4-5 years now. It's been to two different jobs with me, and a couple of different trips. It's just a plastic pitcher-looking thing with a bottom plate. On most of them, the pitcher is heat-proof, so you can take it off the plate (which also doesn't get hot) and set it anywhere you want without worrying about damage. (And fewer worries about little ones getting burned!)

You get a small-to-large amount of nice, clean, piping hot water that's safely stored, easy to handle, and easy to use for more than one thing at a time (tea and instant soup, for example).
