To upgrade to an AP or not, that is the question

We're planning two trips within a year's time (the first short and the second long) where the current adult price for one adult MYW ticket for both trips collectively runs about $600 (about $200 for the first trip and $400 for the second). Both of these trips included planned visits to water parks.

Upgrading just one of those tickets to a PAP (and then using that on the next trip) would initially cost about $600 up-front and ultimately increase our net cost for both trips by about $200. So from a pure ticket cost perspective, it isn't worth it.

However, upgrading one ticket to a PAP would make us eligible for TIW, which is attractive to us as we like to eat a lot of table service meals, including signatures. Even factoring in the additional $100 fee for the TIW card, we would likely more than recoup the extra $300 ($200 for the PAP upgrade + $100 for TIW) in savings from dining but not until sometime during the second trip assuming:

(A) we end up taking the second trip within a year of the first, as planned (call this the "crap happens" risk);

AND

(B) Disney doesn't make signficant additional cuts to TIW benefits (notably, both trips are planned during times that Disney has certain restaurants blacked out and there is always the possibility that Disney will add more to the list - as it is, we're not likely to be able to use it at CRT, Chef Mickey's. Ohana dinner, as well as Teppan Edo and Fantasmic dining at HBD - all places we plan on visiting during the second trip).

Bottom line: upgrading my ticket to a PAP and buying a TIW card (during the first trip) invloves an up-front cost that may or may not pay off, depending on circumstances that I cannot entirely foresee.

If you were in my shoes, would you do it?

Do you think there is a chance you would use any of the other perks? Free parking, free valet parking with TiW (if they still have that), shopping discounts, tour discounts, resort discounts, etc.?

In addition to your TIW discounts you would also be able to use the AP discounts. It could be enough to make up the difference that the TIW doesn't. And, if I'm not mistaken, AP also gets some special discounts on rooms (although I don't know their typical value since we are DVC).
