To upgrade pal mickey or not

We have the origional pal mickey (I think) he has just the red shorts on. We paid like 50 or 60 dollars for him back in 04. I had heard he could be traded in for a new pal mickey for $40 additional. Do you think it is worth it? I know one of our problems with our older pal is the volume, sometimes he is hard to hear. Is the new one louder? I thought I had heard that somewhere. How much more info does the new one have. I can't decide if it is worth it.

I heard the new one is louder. If it were me (and if I could convince DH ) then I would upgrade. I probably would take the old one with me though. That's just b/c I'm a sap.

I always clipped him to my shirt collar (at the "V" of the neck).
He's a bit heavy, but I managed over MANY days of many trips to do this.

I can then just lift him to my ear and I can hear him perfectly.
(If another person in your party wants to hear the info or joke, PM will REPEAT the same message up to 5 times in a row if you just re-squeezing hand or tummy at the end of that message.)

If you want, you can go to a local store that carries inexpensive neck lanyards and buy one to attach to your Pal.

The newer "YoaMD" (Sorcerer's Apprentice) and "50th Anniv." (Tux) Pal Mickeys do reportedly have a louder "voice".

Is there any way to find out if the trade in offer is still available? I checked palmickey.net, but I couldn't find anything. My ds would love the sorcerer mickey one If we could upgrade, that might make our decision easier. Thanks!

If someone who has just visited WDW and checked happens to read and respond to your questions here on the DIS (or if you post this Q on palmickey.net) is about the only way I know.

If you don't find out before you go, be sure to take your current PM with you to the Pal Mickey Store on Main Street in MK (Its still called the "Main Street Cinema" out on its sign.)
If they offer the "trade-in," you're all set.
If not, you'll still have a great time with the PM you already own.

I should add FWIW, that I did read here a few days ago that the Disney Outlet (at least in Orlando) was selling outright (no trade-in) the Version 2 (Tux) PM's at a discount price of about $40.

I don't think there's a lot of difference between Ver. 2 and Ver. 3.

I don't want to quote this as an absolute fact but I think I remember reading the trade in is no longer available. I bet you could try calling the Main Street Cinema and verifying if you could find the number.

As the pp said, the tux version is available at many of the outlets (search the budget board for phone numbers if interested). I ordered 2 of the tux version ones from Sawgrass Mills last week. They were delivered within 3 days. They were $32.99 + shipping. Shipping was $14.00 for 2 and I think others said it was $8.99 for one. I don't live in Florida so there was no tax on my purchase.
