To TIW or not to TIW?

So I'm in final preparations for our first DVC stay this week :) Eight days Feb 27-March 7 at BLT

I've taken a close look at our meal plans, and did some thorough calculations. I wanted to see if the DDP or TIW would work out better for us.

No surprise that the DDP is our worst option. What surprised me was that just paying OOP for everything without TIW was only about 15$ more than using TIW. I was pretty thorough, even considered that some of our dining options already gives us 10% as DVC members (so savings is actually only 10%).

So I might break even, assuming we keep all of our table service ADR's. I guess the deciding factor will be whether my card will still be good for our next visit. We go during the Quebec spring break (so first week of March) every year. The card would need to still be valid until March 12-ish 2014.

So if I get the card on my first day at Disney (Feb 27th), will it be valid until March 31st 2014?

Yes it will, and one other thing that you may have left out of your calculations.

Do you Drink? if so TIW covers alcohol as well:thumbsup2

When I've purchased a TiW card that late in the month, it has added yet another month so your might be valid until April 30, 2014. But I think you can count on it being valid until at least March 31, 2014 unless they have recently changed their rules. You can ask at Guest Service before purchasing.

Does that include the Kiosks in EPCOT, or do you have to actually be in one of the restaurants?

Nope, kiosks are not included. It has to be at one of the locations included in the plan.

We too have just realized that TIW will work much better for us than the DDP. So excited!

Alcohol question - do you know if any of the restaurants that accept the TIW do alcohol to go? Would be nice to get a beer from Rose & Crown to go with a discount.

The Rose & Crown Pub offers the TiW discount, but I do not know if they serve beverages in to go cups. The drink kiosk outside by the Rose & Crown dining room check-in desk does not offer the discount.

Yes, perhaps I will start a new thread asking about TIW discounts that allow alcohol to go.

It worked so much better when it was $75.00! :thumbsup2
But, so far still a benefit, so I'm going to get another one when this one expires.

yep, they will pour it in a plastic cup for you. As the other poster mentioned, you have to go inside to the bar to receive the discount.

The TIW card can be a great value. We had a five hundred dollar bill for four adults at Wolfgang Pucks (two nice bottles of wine) and right there the card was paid for. Every other meal became a savings.:cool1:
