I don't mind paying for a good Hamburger or hot dog, I just don't want the McD type of burger. Anyone?? I've never eaten at Mythos or Confisco so please educate me! TIA ;)

I like the hamburgers at both Hard Rock Cafe and Margaritaville. As for hotdogs, we get our fix at the Nathan's stand (Midway Grill) located near the Jaws exit in Amity at Universal Studios.

How can ya go wrong with a Nathan's? :confused3

Agreed....Mville

All my years going to US/IOA I've never noticed a Nathan's. Always running around on the rides, I miss a lot of the details. DUH! When it comes to hot dogs, Nathan's is one of our favorites. Thanks!

In IOA wippys beside popeyes's and bluto's water ride has good burgers and of course love the brickyard burger and lucky dog at Nascar Grille.

If you want to Build Your Burger--meaning add as much lettuce, mayo, ketchup, onions, tomatoes, etc. then there are two places to go:

Burger Digs (Jurassic Park, IOA) or Richter's (San Francisco, USF)

The best burger I had was at Confisco's at IOA. Margarittaville also has great burgers. I don't remember where I had the best hot dog though.

Oh, please DO NOT eat at Richter's if you are looking for a good burger. Our experience was awful! The make it yourself bar was really nice, but the meat used for the burger was absolutely disgusting. We are usually not too picky with food, but the quality of the burger meat was just terrible. Especially when you're paying $8 or $9 for a fast food burger in the park. Others' experiences might be different from ours, but on that day....it was bad news!

I'll second (or 3rd or 4th LOL) the cheese burger in Paradise at Margarittaville.
What ever you do, stay away from the burgers at Mels LOL

We were disappointed with Mel's also.

I guess the nostalgia factor had worn off by our last visit, and we focused more on the food - we were pretty disappointed.

Do ya'll's recommendations for hot dogs include chili dogs - or is there a different recommendation for them?

Now other posters are saying that ritcher's burgers and mel's are bad and don't know about them but they are raving about margarittaville's cheese burger in paradise and that is the most god awful burger I have ate in my life and you want to talk about bad meat can anyone say tastless no flavor made you gag meat and the mexicali burger which was suppose to have alot of seasoning made DW sick and to be honest I don't think even Jimmy Buffet would have a burger there and only thing that would take me back would be the Valcanoe Nacho's and don't even get me started on the service or should I say no service.
So if you go there I would suggest only the Nacho's

We rated the sitdown cheeseburgers on a 100 point scale-
HRC came in first. I think it was the mushrooms that put it over the top.
Margaritaville was 2nd. You could gone on a bad day ky07? We have ate there a dozen times and the kids always get the cheeseburgers. I only had the cheeseburger when we were doing the rating thing and it was good and I was raised on corn fed cattle.
Mythos was 3rd.

The Nathan's hot dogs at the Midway Grill are good but the bun is huge. They can do chili, Chicago, Rueben or slaw.
Our favorite chili dog is at Wimpy's in IOA.
Mel's used to do a pretty good chili dog but discontinued it.

ky07....when you've been around these boards long enuf, you kind of get a "majority" thing....

for instance...a lot of peeps here do NOT recommend Mel's to eat...however, quite a lot of peeps that are around here love Mel's.....but, imho, most will advise to avoid it :confused3

My goal is to 'eat around' UO. I'm gonna eat at every place....sooner or later  So far, haven't happened upon a place I don't like yet

But, I will leave Mels, Circus McGurkis and International Food Court till the end (as those seem to be the less popular establishments)......

Another vote for the Cheeseburger in Paradise at M'ville.

The kids can't wait to get off the plane and get to City Walk for a cheeseburger. It is always our first place to eat.

DS had the burger at HRC and thought it very good too. I had to sample the French Dip that AlexandNessa said was so good. And she was right on. The BEST French Dip ever! (I know, not a hamburger or hot dog, but had to throw that in).

I don't despise Mel's, but it is one of our last resort choices. It does make McDonalds seem gourmet.

Sorry you had a bad experience at Margaritaville Ky07. We have eaten there so many times and have never had bad service or bad food. But every place has its bad days, so perhaps give it another chance? You might be surprised how good it actually is.

LOL didn't mean to hit a nerve but as all know it is just an oppinion and others may like but anyway to all those who like this place sorry didn't mean to make anyone mad.

You didn't hurt a nerve at all. All opinions are valid and good. It is great to hear both the good and bad. For instance, I think we are the only folks on the planet that had a totally inedible meal at Tchoup Chop.

I like to hear the good and bad reviews. That is what I enjoy so much about the Universal boards. Everybody seems to realize that places can have their ups and downs and everybody appreciates hearing the good and bad about places. Not everything is covered in pixie dust all the time. Oops, meant mummy dust

i agree.... i want to hear the good, the bad AND the ugly :scared: (as painful as THAT may be) Not everyone is going to agree on THE best or THE worst...but, with many different opinions, you get the 'general idea'.... for instance...how many people come here and say they've had a bad experience at Mythos?? :confused3 I can probably count on 1 hand and have fingers left over

By voicing opinions and such, we get a general idea of what places are popular because they are good and/or bad. :goodvibes
