To take, or to buy there

Are there any pharmacy items (sun sprays, insect repellent, etc) that anyone would definitely recommend buying before the trip (in Boots, or whatever), or is it best to wait till getting to Orlando? Also, any products in particular that anyone has found indispensible?

If you get the occasional cold sore you should be aware that Zovirax is prescription-only in the US. Similarly, medication including codiene (eg Solpadiene pain killer) is restricted. Other than that I think you could get just about anything you need while you are there. We prefer to take enough medication, sunscreen, etc to keep us going for the holiday as we don't want to have to waste time visiting pharmacists unless we have to.

We on the other hand take practically nothing and buy when we get there. Our view is that it is a civilized country and will have most things we need, thus saving precious packing space!! Also insect sprays etc bought there seem to be much more efficient than ones "imported" JMHO

The only stuff I'd suggest taking would be children's medicine. When they need it they can't wait 2 hours while you go to the chemist.

Also, if you're heading straight out to the parks on the first day, and want to get there early (and you should), it may be worth taking a small bottle of higher factor sunscreen/lotion.

It can be quite a pain finding a chemist too. It takes time away from the fun.

It's a split decision really. It's not answered your question, but it's given you somethings to consider.

I much prefer the sun tan cream that you get out there, my DH has very fair skin and always burns very easily with english creams - even factor 60 applied regularly, he never burns with the ones we've bought out there though, we normally buy the Coppertone brand.

You can also but most medications in supermarkets (Walmart etc) In addition there are several drive thru pharmacies on 192 (Eckerdt and Walgreens) If you get really stuck, the parks will sell you (or give you) single doses of painkillers, plasters etc if you ask at customer services!

We buy everything there. Especially the mossie spray as our stuff seems to attract them!!!!

If you need just a single dose of parcetamol etc the ask at any shop in Disney and they have some under the counter.

For easy to burn people I hear you with the lotions. My chap burns very easy on the only thing I take with us is the face stick for the body shop. It looks like a glue stick and works very well. It doesn't slide off the face and run in to eyes etc like some do, even if you get wet. Nic burns so easy so he puts this on his face ears and back of the neck.

We buy everything there - shampoo, conditioner, shower gel, blister cream, blister sore covers, suncream, headache tabs etc. etc.!!!!

We ran out of Calpol and discovered that it is not available in the States. They do their own paracetamol suspension for children which is of a slightly different formulation. If you have children, I would take your favourite brand out with you.

I take it with me!

well as much as possible.

When we get there on our first night we will have to go grocery shopping, we're staying in a villa. & the thought of trailing round the supermarket looking for toiletries sounds too much like being at home.

On our first day we have a character breakfast booked & then its straight into a park

IMHO supermarket shopping for items you can bring with you is a waste of time.

plus our usual holidays are camping in France & you should see what I take then!!!!!!!!:bounce: :Pinkbounc :bounce: :Pinkbounc
