To splurge on POFQ or save on POP movies?

If these 2 places cost the same, I go with POFQ. I think my kids would freak over the pool there, and as we're staying a week I'd like to be comfortable in the event we have a rain day, or just want to hang at the room. I also like that the rides on the buses are shorter and that we can take a boat sometimes too.
I got a quote the other day and theres a $500+ difference between the 2. If it was half that I'd go for PO, but I have a hard time with the price being what it is. I could pay for our DP with that! So we're probably going to have to stay at the POP movies. I'm trying to tell myself the kids will like the grounds better at Movies, but I'm bummed thinking about the longer bus rides.

Any tips? Keep rate shopping and maybe I'll find a better deal on travelocity or something? This is really stupid, I know we aren't going for the room. But we're going to be on our own for a week and I'd like to be in a place that we picked, not just what was cheapest. I've got a few weeks before I'll want to book it so some 'deal with it' points would be nice ;)

I would stay with Pop. We just stayed there & had some of the best bus transportion. Pop has 1 bus stop so when leaving from the resort to the parks you always had an empty bus to start. When we did EMH at MK they brought in 3 buses at a time to get us back to the resort.

I was very worried that I would not enjoy Pop but we really did. As you said $500 can pay your DP. The food court was great too.

I also found the Pop buses very good when I was there in March. Better than POR because there was only one stop at the resort.
As for the pool, the only real difference is there is a water slide at POFQ, which is small. Pop also has 3 pools to just one at POFQ.
Pop also has one of those hidden in the ground fountains with the water jets for the kids to play in. The young ones seem to like that better than a slide from what I have seen.
And the arcade at Pop is huge, great place to go on a rainy day.

I would save your $500 for food and souviners.
I have stayed at both hotels and I like them both but to me $500 is a lot of money.

Hi. Are you talking about All Star Movies or Pop Century?

Allison is correct. The OP is referring to a resort called Pop Movies. It is either Pop Century or All Star Movies. Both are value resorts.

:confused3

I'd go for the moderate even with a $500.00 difference. POFQ is a small resort, very nice and when we stayed there my DS was 4 and loved the pool.

We stayed at POFQ in February. I really enjoyed it a lot. I haven't stayed at a value resort yet so I don't have any experience there.

I am booked at POFQ for our next trip. We downgraded from the WL to save $100 a night. However, my boys still said they wanted to go to POP. They loved it there. You will have a good time at POP. Save the money for other things.

You have me a little confused about which hotel you are talking about the POP Century or the All Star Movies. I am going in November with my DS, sister, nephew, and DM. We had the same choice to make 2 rooms at POFQ or 2 rooms at POP. I think we are going to go with POP. We stayed at the POFQ in Feb. 06 and I liked it a lot. I think that the POP will be just as good and the kids will probably like it better.

we stayed at pop last sept. and had a great time. The only thing I'd do different is definately get a preferred room. Some of the buildings are quite far from the main enterence. I've also stayed at pofq and it's a beautiful resort. It is very small so nothing is a far walk. If you're concerned about room size I'd say don't worry about it. I know people say the POFQ rooms are bigger but I honestly can't say I noticed the difference, so if that's your only thing it probably is not worth it to stay at the more expensive place. The pools at pop are great so your kids will love them. They are theme shaped which is always fun, and there is a water squirting section that the kids seemed to LOVE when I was there.

I also couldn't tell if you were talking about POP or All Star Movies so I'll tell you I've stayed at the all stars resorts as well (all but the sports resort), and I like pop better, but again POP grounds are much bigger so you might have a farther walk.

tricia.

Sorry for the confusion, I thought all three of the mod resorts had POP before the name (you know, cause cheap is 'POPular' ;) I'm still learning all the lingo here.
All Star Movies was the one I was meaning. I think the kids would like that pool the best from looking at the pics. I also looked at a map and think I'll request to stay in a room in the Toy Story buildings. Fairly close to the pool and bus stop, and the boys like that movie. And I saw I can get a 'Pina Colava' by the pool there so I feel better now ;)
Thanks for the motivation to save the money for better things!!!

There are 4 value resorts. All Star Sports, All Star Music, All Star Movies and Pop Century. I've stayed at All Star Movies and Pop Century. Both are nice but I enjoy Pop Century more. The All Star resorts sometime share buses. The bus service at Pop Century was great. Each All Star has 1 pool while Pop Century has 3 pools. Pop Century has both a pool bar and a bar in the food court. AND....my #1 reason for choosing Pop is the food court has frozen slushies as part of the refill mug program.:rotfl:

Have a great trip!

The basic difference between the value resorts (POP, AllStar Movies, Music and Sports) and the moderates (POFQ, POR, CBR and CSR) is that the mods have a table service restaurant, a slide at the pool and a hot tub. The grounds at the moderates are also more themed.
I love POR..it was my first resort and I try to stay there every so often. But, I have to say that I was pleasantly surprised by how much I like the value resorts. I've stayed at POP as well as AllStar Music. I enjoyed the food courts a lot, and the pools were a lot of fun. No slide but my dd is now old enough (13) that she either wants the 'big' slides or nothing at all!!
The rooms at the two types of resorts are almost identical in size..the mods are a bit larger but not so much that you would really notice. The mods also have that curtain between the vanity area and the sleeping area..that's a nice plus. Now, if I'm going to POP (which I do quite frequently!!) I bring a tension rod and curtain and put up my own privacy curtain.

I would rather save the money and stay at a value. They are bright, colorful and full of life. Kids seem to really love them. But, there are plenty of people here who will stay only at moderates rather than a value. It's up to each individual.
