To sell or not to sell...

I just recently got the Sigma 24-70 f/2.8. I love  this lens. I also have a Nikkor 80-200 f/2.8, a Nikkor 50 mm f/1.8 and a Sigma 30mm f/1.4. All are great lenses.

I am thinking about selling my Nikkon 18-200 VR but I'm not sure if I will regret it. It is a great "all purpose" lens if you don't want to carry your whole kit, but honestly, the Sig. 24-70 is just so good, I don't want to take it off the camera.

What would you do?

Do you use that 80 - 200mm range much when you are out shooting? If it just sits in your bag all the time then you might want to think about it. That constant f/2.8 throughout is nice to have just in case however

I'll be curious to hear the opinions. I've been thinking of selling my Tamron 18-270 to finance the Sigma 70-100 f2.8. I'd be left with the Canon kit 18-55 (not 2.8), my sigma 30mm f1.4, my nifty fifty and my new Tokina 11-16 f2.8.

I haven't been able to pull the trigger though. I'm thinking I will miss that all in one for sunny days. And I'm not sure I want the 2.8 zoom to be my only lens with reach. With 3 kids, I'm not sure always want to carry around a 3 pound lens every time I need some reach beyond 50mm.

I used the 80-200 mm range a lot on the 18-200, but now I have the 80-200 f/2.8 that covers that. I agree that they are both heavy lenses and combined with the weight of the d300, it is a heavy camera. That doesn't bother me too much though. I am more concerned that I will regret losing the ease of having one lens that covers a wide range. With that, I'm not having to switch out lenses, carry so many, etc.

But the quality and sharpness of the f/2.8 lenses is just soooooo nice.

I sold my 18-200 and bought the Tamron 28-70 f/2.8, I've never regretted it. Once you get spoiled by the f/2.8 throughout you don't want to go back and you just adapt to the weight. I chase two 4yr olds and I don't miss the extra zoom that much, I just zoom with my feet. Hope this helps!

Sell it. I sold my 18-200 in order to fund a Nikon 70-200 f/2.8 and haven't regretted it yet. After I got the Sigma 30 f/1.4 a year ago, I found that my 18-200 was VERY rarely on my camera. After about 5 months of not using it once, I sold it, made back what I bought it for and haven't missed it once.
