To pack shorts or not to pack shorts?

To all of you who have been to WDW in early December before I have a question for you. Is it a waste for me to pack shorts? I was going to pack capris/pants for my DD and myself, and pants for DH and DS's. Then just lots of short/ long sleeves and sweatshirts. Does this sound o.k., or sometimes is it still warm enough for shorts? Thanks!

Nope! The weather is totally unpredictable. One day we were wearing shorts, the next sweaters. Better be safe than sorry because if by chance you get an 80 degree day and you didn't pack them, you'll be kicking yourself.

I agree, pack both warm and cold weather clothing.

I've been to WDW the last two Decembers and have seen temps in the 30s and temps in the 80s in the same week. It;s tough to predict, so you have to be ready for anything.

Take shorts and sweats. We were there in Dec 02 and the weather was beautiful during the day and chilly at night. If it happens to be cold all day, you will be prepared with your sweats.

We are going to be there thru Dec. 4 and I wondered about the weather too. I have researched it and it sounds like the days range from the upper 70's to lower 80's. Nothing too extreme. I say pack the shorts. They won't take up much more room in the suitcase and if you bring just 1 or 2 in a neutral color like black or denim you can mix and match with your shirts.
BTW, I'm glad to know I'm not the only one who frets over what clothes to pack. In fact I have been known to write out who's wearing what and when. Talk about over planning!

We have been down late Nov./early Dec. and late December. IMHO you should pack clothes suitable for both warm days and cool nights. We generally were able to wear shorts during the day but by early evening we had jeans and hoodies on. I also think it depends where you are from. I am from central New York, so by the end of November and December it is already snowing here. When we get south 60 feels really good to us!

we have usually worn shorts during the day and a sweatshirt at night but occasionally needed something warmer( maybe once a trip)..i usually packed 1 or 2 warmer outfits and the rest summer stuff and was fine. i would listen to the weather channel or something just befoer you pack for the 10 day forecast and then you would be safer. capris are imo great for fl.winter since they are not too hot or too cold..i'd probably take 1 pair of jeans just in case and the rest capris..that's what i took in Jan and was fine( a little colder than early Dec)

Dec-Feb are the hardest to pack for. We were there the second weekend of December last year and needed hats and gloves. As we watched the fireworks we were shivering, with sweatshirts and jackets on. I always make sure I'm at a resort with a hot tub during those trips. When we went back in January, I was prepared with sweatpants, sweaters, jackets, a warm hat and gloves--and never regretted it and used them all.

We were there the first week in December two years ago and wore jeans most of the time, but two days we did wear shorts.

I always check weather sites the day before we go anywhere, then pack accordingly.

I was there Dec 4 to 10 last year and wore shorts almost every day, jeans and a light jacket at night. However, the year before I hardly wore shorts at all and was glad I brought a light winter jacket and gloves for night. So prepare for either and check the forecasts before you go to see what you should bring. If the daytime highs are below 70, I would bring something heavier for night.

It really depends also on what type of weather you're used to. I see you're from MA-I used to live there and would always bring shorts to wear in WDW in early December. I remember some Canadians there (Hi, Sam!) wearing shorts too. But now I live where it's hotter than WDW and last time I went to WDW in early December, I wouldn't have worn shorts-I'd feel so cold!

Debbie B we arrived on the day you left and unfortunately for us the temps took a turn for the worst. We had nites that felt like they were in the 30's and days in the low 60's.

In the past I have also been there in Jan when it was high 70's all week long.

So I suggest you bring a WIDE variety of clothing and be prepared to layer - (also pack a knit hat and maybe some gloves they won't take up much room and you may be VERY happy you brought them along).

I'm a heat wimp, so I pack the shorts! Since we're coming from NE Ohio, we're already prepared with cold weather gear for our outbound flight, so that's a plus. We did need jackets, hats, and gloves one evening in 2003, but DDs still swim in the daytime (love the heated pools!) I pack a variety and carry extra layers with us or plan for a return to the resort and a change to warmer wear for the evening. I still have one in a stroller, though, so that may change when she gets too big for it and I have nowhere to pack it all!

We were there the first week of Dec. last year and like you I worried what to pack. Turns out all we all wore was shorts. We never even got out a light jacket at night. No jeans, nothing but shorts and t-shirts. Now, like others said, you never know about Dec. so be prepared. Look closely at the weather ahead of time and still pack something different from the weather predictions- you never know when a front will come through. We are planning to go again next Dec. and I will pack mainly shorts and some sweat jackets- unless the weather closer to time tells me otherwise.
BTW- I'm from Alabama and am certainly not used to cold weather- so I get cold easily.

We did the dame thing the last couple of years. One year it rained so much that the MVMCP activities were cancelled and it was a mess! It was so cold that year I was thankful I had brought my gloves in my coat pocket that I used here in Michigan.

Last year I was in shorts and sandals the whole weekend, so it's a toss up. I'd pack a couple of pairs of shorts and some warmer clothing for the evenings.

ok i have to say that it really will have to do with what you can take for temps. we went in january, and it was in the mid 80's all day, every day, but the last day it rained. we wore shorts and tshirts the whole time, the last day we just wore the ponchos over it, plenty warm. but even if it was in the low 50's we would still be in shorts, coming from maine where the winter temps hover at the donut without windchills, and 30-40 below with. anything that doesn't frost the pumpkin is a heat wave in our parts,lol. at night steam was rising off the pool that you couldn't even see across it as we were returning from the parks in shorts, and we changed to take a dip b4 bed.
