This is our first time using ME. We have a later flight arriving in MCO at 7:51PM. With the kids only being 6 and 2, once we finally get to the All Star Movies Resort, we are going to want to get them in bed and ready for the next day. While they are sleeping I would love to be able to unpack and get things settled in.
So my question is......Should I tag the luggage for ME to pick up and deliver to our room, and possibly have to wait until the next morning for our luggage, because they don't deliver to your room after 10pm? Or should I not put the ME tags on, and go retrieve the luggage from the baggage corral our self, and just tip the ME cast member who has to load our luggage onto the bus?

Opinions?

and THANK YOU :)

I think that they don't pick-up luggage from MCO if you arrive after 10:00 pm. However, if you arrive at MCO before that then you're luggage will be delivered to your resort. It might take up to three hours, but I believe that if you want, they'll delivery whenever it arrives...even in the middle of the night unless you specify differently (i.e., hold until morning). I know I've had flights that arrived around 7 pm and my luggage has always been delivered that evening.

Now if you want to know for sure your luggage will be in your room fairly early (i.e., less than three hours after you arrive at the resort), then you should probably just forgo the luggage tags and take your bags with you on DME.

I would NOT tag the bags. Instead I would pick them up from the carousel and tip the DME driver. It can take upwards from 3 hours to get your bags, so you might be unpacking after midnight! I was just there a couple of weeks ago and it took 4 hours to get our bags.

I want to clear up a few things for you before I tell you what I would do. :)

First off, they will deliver your bags until Midnight, if you want them too. They stop picking the yellow ticketed bags at the airport after 10pm, but they deliver them to the value resorts until Midnight. If you don't want them to deliver them after a set time, all you have to do is tell the desk when you check in to hold your bags. They will then keep them until you call down for them the next day. I've done this a few times, and it works great.

Second, even if you choose to get your own bags, pack one day's worth of stuff in your carry-on. Just in case your airline misdirects your luggage. Anything you need right away should be in your carry-on--swimsuits, or pjs and always all medications and important papers. Have at least one change of clothing in your carry-on.

Third, be aware that the baggage delivery window of 3 hours doesn't start ticking until you check in to your resort. And you should hit your resort by around 9:30.

For me, letting DME handle by luggage is the best part of DME! I don't want to spend any more time at the airport than I have to! Why wait another half hour to get going to WDW? Why have to shell out a few dollars in tips (you need to tip the DME driver for handling your bags) if you don't have to? Let DME deal with your bags, and you will be at your resort that much faster.:goodvibes

If your flight arrives, ontime, at 8ish, you won't be at your resort until close to 9:15-9:30. Plan on it taking 70-80 mins...from MCO to ASMs. So, if you arrive at ASM around 9:15ish, you can expect your bags prior to midnight. Yes, DME stops collecting bags at MCO at 10pm. And the value resorts stop baggage delivery within the resort around midnight. But if you tag your bags, you will get them that night..but it may not be until midnight. And you want to get settled.

I would just head to baggage claim and get them myself. Don't tag the bags..otherwise they will be pulled out and never make it to baggage claim!! But, as already mentioned, be sure to pack anything you may need for the evening, and maybe even early morning, in your carryon bags. That way...if a bag gets misdirected by the airline, you can still function that night/early morning.

Tip the bus driver who loads, and unloads, your bags upon arrival at ASM. I usually tip about $1 per bag.

Just a thought... if you're checking multiple bags, tag some (and let bell services know not to deliver until the next morning) and pick some up at baggage claim. The only reason to do this is to just cut down on how many bags you've got to schlep from baggage claim to ME, then ME to the front desk, then the front desk to your room.

Personally, I WOULD tag all checked bags, have enough clothes for night time and the next day in my carry on (should be mandatory IMO, DME or no DME), and tell bell services I'll call for the bags in the morning.

Thank you for all your replies!

I was aware that we would not be at the hotel until at LEAST 9:30PM. I figured I would get the kids settled into bed, and do the unpacking while they slept. That way it would be less for us to do once our vacation REALLY started. LOL! I always always always pack what I like to call a "survival kit" in my carry on. I was about 18, and flying for the first time alone, when the airline "lost" my luggage. I didn't pack anything in my carry on, so therefore I was at walmart, grabbing undies and other necessities for the remainder of my trip. I learned a very valuable lesson though ;).

Thank you, I think you have helped me make my decision to grab our own bags. The night we arrive is a wash for us anyways, so I'm not worried about how much time spent in the airport. I'd rather have my bags right when we arrive, and start getting settled so the rest of the trip we are ready to GO GO GO!

Thanks all again!!

Sounds like a plan. I know that I would hate waiting for my bags..either that night or the next morning. I want to get settled and go to bed...nice fresh start in the morning.
And good for you learning that pack your carryon bag lesson!!! I tell you..it only has to happen one time, then you always pack that carryon.
