So is it worth the cost or is it better to just put your card in a sleeve/lanyard around your neck? I have not found any Magic Bands cheaper than $12.99.

That's a completely personal decision. We thought MBs were a waste too when we first saw them years ago. Then I bought one and after using it a little bit, everyone in our family got them. We absolutely love them...the kids have 4 or 5 each. But there's nothing wrong with the card if you want to use it.

Thanks, just wish they were a little cheaper, adds up when you have to buy 5 of them.

I mean, I’d you're on a strict budget, the card works fine. That being said, no way we would travel to WDW without the MBs. But most of the perks I like best are on site ones I think like it being the room key and room charging privileges. Since you’re not getting them free with your stay, you must not be staying on site so I’m not sure what you can and can’t do. I would love it just for the FPs though, too.

No we have a time share. Can we hook it up to are credit card though to use in the park for food and gifts?

You should double check, but I don’t THINK so. I believe that is a perk to guests staying on site, but again I am not 100% on that one. It’s super convenient to not have to bring ANYTHING with you as far as cash or credit cards go, so definitely double check.

If you’re not staying onsite I don’t see why you’d want the MB. You can just as easily tap your card for your FPs, so if you’re on the fence, I’d say stick with the card and spend the $65 on a nice souvenir.

If we had to purchase them, we would just use the cards which do the same thing.

We always stay onsite, so have received many of them, but they aren't a real 'biggie' to us. Yes, we do charge everything on them, then have one cc charge at the end, but doesn't really matter how we do it.

I love them for the charging and DP credit charging. You can’t do either if you’re offsite, so once again, I say why bother, unless maybe your kids really want it because they see other kids with it, then it may be worth it for their happiness.

We went four years ago when they were very new and we stayed at Dolphin so we had to buy one if we wanted one. We all decided we would do that as our "souvenir". My DD went two years ago with her friends and she used the same magic band. We are going in May and all using the same bands but when we got together on Easter we jazzed them up with decals I bought on etsy. It was fun and we like wearing them even if the card would do the same. It is just your choice. :)

It's worth having at least one if you have photopass. You can't get the picture at 7DMT without a magic band. Also there are a few rides that have videos that you can only get with a magic band.

The perks of a Magic Band are not nearly as enticing if you are staying off property... essentially, it's a glorified bracelet for your tickets/fast passes. As a previous poster mentioned... it does help with PhotoPass/on ride pictures/videos and there are few interactive elements in some of the ride queues.

As an off property guest... you will not be able to link a credit/debit card for in park charges.

Since you're staying off site... consider popping into one of the Disney Outlets off property... and you may be able to find one (typically an older holiday or event themed/limited edition) for a discounted price. For example, the Christmas Party Magic Band was at the outlets a few months later... marked down to $8. Since it was a Magic Band 2.0, the 'puck' can be removed and added to a holder to also hang from your lanyard if you so desired.

If you don’t use magic bands, then get lanyards. But don’t buy them at Disney because they are around $20.

We used lanyards at Universal and it was really handy.

We just stayed offsite this week, and do often. We wear MB.
Okay sometimes I wear two if I can't decide.
It is much easier than pulling a card in and out since we FP+ all day long.
It makes it very easy to get our photos.
We don't like lanyards and the risk of them coming off, especially on the attractions.
[If you do use lanyards/tickets make sure you photo the back of each ticket in case of loss for the numbers.]

OP watch the Disney Store website, when there is a sale (often 25% off) you can at least save $3.25 each.

OR if you are willing to wait, stop by the Disney Outlet Store we have picked them up for $9.99 there sometimes.

OR if you know someone with an AP they can order them via the Disney APP for 20% off.

Nope.

Charging is to *the room*, not to the band. So to charge with the band you have to be onsite.

Do the cards fit into standard ID holders on lanyards?

Yes. As always.

My lanyards have never come off.

My band has, to an extent, at least 3 times.

My soontobe ex husband lost his and our son’s Disneyland APs once because his Disney-purchased flimsy lanyard *pouch* got caught under the Screamin’ restraint and pulled off, but that’s like 50% user error vs Disney issue. And it’s not the lanyard.
I use a hard plastic waterproof Witz brand “pouch” on a metal run on the metal connector on my Ravenclaw lanyard and I’ve never had an issue.

On the contrary, when you book a vacation, the basic color magicbands of your choice are included with your package, not with an additional $12.99/band.
