To Luau or not to Luau?

One more thing,

we got so lucky when my husband called to make the PS's for the HTDR. The CM was a real nice lady who said can you be flexible on which night you attend? He said sure. She said, Oh come on this night and I'll put you at table number 12, that's a good one. (table for 6)

When we were seated, it was downstage right. RIGHT in front of the stage. Great seats! Our two little DD's were so happy that there were no grownup's blocking their view.
I would not, however want to sit up in the balcony. To me, that did not look good.

Went during our first trip in '96. Would not go again. Food OK at best; entertainment average. Have not been since so it may have improved.

Another thumbs down for the Luau. We went this last August and thought that the new story was very corny (and we're not prone to cynicism when we're at DW!) and the food was mediocre. My DH and I had seen the old show a while back and thought that the focus on the dancing made the show more authentic and interesting. If you want to try a dinner show, go to the Hoop Dee Do. That show is intentionally corny, but also hysterical and the food is much better. The Luau was the only disappointment of our last trip. (We did, however, purchase a great picture of the four of us!)

I went on May 12 and would not go again. The food was alright, but not worth the price. I found the show pretty lame. Some of the hulas and the fire dancer at the end were good, but I didn't enjoy the rest. At $50 a person, you can find a much better way to spend your money.

Thanks everyone for your imput. I am definitely opting to do Ohana and the Hoop Dee Doo instead of the Luau. That seems to be the general consenses.

I wouldn't say the Luau in any way as a bad show but it wasn't good either. I actually thought that the food was very good. I couldn't get enough of it actually and my mouth is watering thinking about it.

But I didn't think the show was that good. I was expecting more of a Luau and less of people talking very loudly into mikes where you couldn't even understand what they were saying. I thought the story was sort of unbelievable (what I could understand) -- just not very genuine.

I remember the old Luau from when I was a kid. I don't think they should have changed it. Sure, Lilo and Stitch works into the theme, but this show doesn't really get into the dancing and other things that make a Luau a Luau until the very end of the show. Plus, if you don't have an upfront seat, the views are pretty teribble.

The service was also slow and banquet style. Even though it was fun, I wouldn't say it's really worth the money unless you have much money to blow. I really wanted to take my son to it because I have such a good memory of it as a child. I was a little disappointed actually.

The wait to sit down was also extremely long. We arrived about 1/2 hour before show, but I don't think they even let anyone in until after the start time and there was really no place to sit down while you wait in the line. Very cattle herdish.

Just to clarify, when we went to the luau this month, there was no Lilo and Stitch. They are not in any way part of the story.
