I just finsihed rereading this novel. I read it whn I was in high school, and now that it's on my daughter's reading listthis year I thought I'd reread it.

I'd forgotten how well crafted the story was. wow. still worth reading.

I think I'm going to rent the movie....

One of my all time favorites. It's like comfort food to me - only it's less fattening.:D

OK, this is weird. I just read this thread a few minutes ago right after it was first posted. Got up to go check on my son in the living room and I look down and he had my "To Kill a Mockingbird" book. He just pulled it down from the shelf. I'm not making this up--very eerie.

Great book, BTW!

I reread this book for the fun of it at the end of the summer since it's one of my favorites. I then went to my son's high school curriculum night and found out he will be reading it in his English class. The teacher was giving some tips to the parents and suggested reading the book so we can discuss it with our children. It was funny to me because I had just finished the book a few days before. I have also been wanting to rent the movie, but I guess I'll wait until DS finishes it and watch it with him.

At open house last night, DS's English teacher had the books out that they would be reading next. Guess what the next one is?? I think I will have to go buy it so I can read it too.

The teacher I work with said this is his favorite book. He read 35 books this summer, he is a major reader. I have to read it soon.

When we had to read this book in school (I'll admit) I cheated and watched the movie first. But I loved it so much it prompted me to read the book! :o

I first read To Kill A Mockingbird when I was 12 years old and it's been my favorite book ever since. I usually read it once a year and I always cry at the end when Scout says, "Hey, Boo" and walks him home. I usually keep an extra couple of copies around and if someone tells me they haven't read it, I give them a copy and hound them into reading it. I've never had anyone yet who didn't enjoy it.

The movie was so well done as well. Usually, I hate a movie version of a favorite book--but Gregory Peck just IS Atticus.

If you haven't read it yet, please read it soon! Or stop by my house and I'll give you a copy.;)

That is one of my favorite books ! I've read it twice..............
The movie is the GREATEST too!!! :D ;)

The funny thing is that Harper Lee didn't actually write it as a novel. It was a series of short stories. The publisher said they would only publish it if she put it together as a novel. She based the characters on herself and things that happened as she was growing up. I've always found it fascinating that her friend that she based the character Dill on was Truman Capote. He spent summers living near her when she was a child. Both she and Truman Capote ended up as Pulitzer Prize winners.

I love the book and movie. Chris never read it in school. He's from WV. He said it must be a "southern thing".....

Nope.

Olena,

I'm from WV and not only did I read this book in school, I also taught it. Best book ever!

I read it also when my son had it in HS. I have loved the movie since I was young and saw it with my mom. The book was even better but no so different that it made you dislike the movie.

This novel was required reading when I was in hs and I was pleased to learn that it is still required reading when my dd was in hs. We both enjoyed it very much. As a matter of fact my dd wrote a sequel to it as one of her writing exercises for her portfolio. Although she couldn't hope to write anything anywhere near the quality of the original I liked that she picked this novel because she had to really understand the characters and I felt this was the perfect novel to study so closely.

My favorite book ever!I read it when I was quite young and I absolutely LOVED the movie!

When my youngest daughter was 10, she auditioned for, and won, the role of Scout in a community theatre production of To Kill A Mockingbird. I had already read the book to her when she was younger, so she was familiar with the content of the play.

The funny thing was, she looked a lot like Mary Badham, the actress who played Scout in the movie version. One of the most poignant moments in the play, and where the audience always reacted the most, was when she took Boo by the arm and led him back to his house, (after she said, "Hey, Boo"). It was so cute because my daughter was little, (she looked closer to 6 or 7, than 10), and the actor playing Boo was over 61/2 feet tall!

This is my favorite book. I probably read it once a year. The movie was great as well. I think Scout is my favorite character of all time in a book or movie.
