To hold or not to hold the gate...

I'm not the pool police. I wouldn't slam the gate on anyone. If the person wasn't right behind me I might ignore them. If the person was right behind me, and looked like a pool crasher, or just looked rushed I'd step aside and let them open the gate
EDITED to add if the person was a couple of steps behind me I'd be polite and hold the gate

I find it amusing that people find the need to hurl insults like “pool police” and “rudeness” in an effort to shame people who won’t hold the gate open. I may not be the official “pool police” but I feel very strongly about how crowded the pools get and how difficult it can be for legitimate guests to find a lounge chair. I find absolutely no need to hold a gate to a restricted area open for anyone. If they are guests of the resort, then they have a key card or MB to open that gate themselves. In fact, I find it to be rude when people keep the gates open so that pool crashers can take advantage. You’re actually doing your fellow resort guests a huge disservice.

I don’t see “pool police” as an insult. I posted that before even reading the thread. Heck I call myself the “pillow police” at home. And so does my family. Lol. I’m really not a passive aggressive person. If I want to insult someone I’ll say much more than “pool Police.”

I'm all for politeness and consideration for others, but in this case I think that holding the gate open for people not in your party kinda defeats the purpose of having the gate!

It's not for Guests to decide who to keep out, equally, you could say, it's not for Guests to decide who to let in. ...Let the gate decide!!!! :D There are plenty of other opportunities in life to hold doors and gates open for others .

Plus, it's just as important to teach kids how to be assertive in maintaining their security as it is to teach them to hold a door open.

So when people who are staying club level get on an elevator with access to the club level floors and other floors should they push the close door button immediately or if somebody is asking you to hold the door because they might get off at the club level floor and might not belong there and it defeats the point of having a club level band scanner to access the floor?

CL CMs know who their guests are. I don’t think that the same can be said for lifeguards and pool area CMs.

Since I have been duly notified, I will try to keep this civil...

I am on the "not hold the gate" side of the argument. People circumventing rules for their own self-justification don't get the "nice" me. Show me you're on the up-and-up, then I will gladly do so; but just saying that phrase and running people over sends out negativity about your intentions, though. Note: if you cause inconvenience to someone else to avoid you being inconvenienced, uhh... too bad.

What can I say other than I loathe impoliteness... especially in rulebreakers.

One rule for you, one rule for others?
I’m not the one who took the first shot. If people want to point out what they consider rude behavior without recognizing that their own actions have a negative impact on others (and thereby rude), I’m going to point it out.

I think the lock is what make it not rude. If I am walking in an unlocked door I will always hold it. But at a school, keycarded office, bank after hours, apartment building, the lock is there for a reason and I would not expect people to hold it open for me. I agree with others who have pointed out you are being rude to your fellow guests by enabling people to break the rules and crowd the pools. CMs at the pool do not have a way to verify who is a hotel guest or not—that is what the lock is for. I’d rather be policing the rules than enabling people to break them.
