You’re staying a a nice delux Disney hotel, heading to the pool. You use your MB to open the gate and get bum-rushed by a family running up behind yelling “ hold the gate” do you? Thinking they’re not staying at the resort? It’s a tough one.

I think it's a bit of a judgment call. Let's say I'm walking with a group of folks that all exited the resort elevators together and heading toward the pool--definitely going to hold the gate open for the group and not slam it behind me. But if there are lurkers there hanging around by the gate with a big day bag, that gate is going click in their face for sure. It's weird for me to imagine someone hollering hold the gate--it's not like they have to wait if you close it--they can just hold up their MB. If they yelled for me to keep it open that would be a big red flag and fall into the gate-close category.

I'm confused. Why would you think they aren't staying at the hotel? Maybe they left their MB in the rooms, or had them in their bags, not realizing they would need them to get into the pool. Even if they aren't staying at that hotel, when did it become the guests job to police that? It costs you nothing to be polite and hold the gate. If you felt they weren't guests, you could very easily alert a CM at the pool to your suspicions and let them deal with it.

I wouldn’t stress about it. I’m on vacation, not patrolling who belongs where. I’m not going to abruptly close a gate with a family right behind me. I feel like I’m nicer at Disney, lol!

Disney is not so worried about it, or there would be an attendant at the gate to manually check each band. So I’m not going to worry about it.

It makes me wonder what the proximity is on reading magic bands, like at rides for the pictures. Disney could just have someone walk-thru the pool area with a reader of sorts and easily bust people if they were so inclined.

Agreed. Manners first and Disney didn't hire me to be their pool bouncer.

In my opinion, which may or may not be worth the brain cells that formulated it. If it was me trying to sneak into a Disney pool at a resort that I was not staying at I would wait until I saw sa family going to the pool and walk quickly until I was right behind them. And I mean close enough to hold the gate for THEM as they passed through (OH here let me hold that for you) rather than draw attention to myself by yelling hold the gate. But, as I am told all the time by my wife I can be WRONG:)

This very situation happened to me when we stayed at Poly right after they installed the pool gate. This guy came up to me so quickly as I was entering the pool that I was actually kind of startled. I wasn't about to play inquisitor, so I just held it. I suspected he wasn't a guest (no magic band, huge pool bag), but I thought I would leave it to the CM's to figure out.

I would most likely hold it, but might wonder if they were resort guests or not.

We have held the gate door at Polynesian and GF, but not any other resort. Poly was the worst, almost every time we went through the gate, someone ran up behind us. I didn't want to be rude, so always held it open.....I don't condone pool hopping, but it shouldn't have to be ' guest enforced'. I really like the way BC/ YC always has someone scanning each guest into the pool area. I don't want to be the ' mean' person lol

Unless someone were carrying a child, had their hands loaded with beach gear or food/beverages, or were using a mobility device, why would someone yell out to hold the gate open? When you have opened the door to enter a resort, how often have you heard someone yell out to hold the door, unless their hands were full or they were using a mobility device?
