To Go or Not to Go?.... That is the question.

Hello everyone!

We have (2) 3 Day Hopper Passes to use on our vacation to WDW in December. We have never been to animal Kingdom before and wonder if it's worth us going or not? Going will be my DH (32), me (29) and my two kids, DD (4) and DD (2). Thanks for your advice!

If you have never gone before, I would recommend going. The problem would be deciding which one to skip!!

My kids, who were 7, 4, & 2 on our last trip absolutely love Animal Kingdom. They all say it is their favorite after the MK. The 2 little ones didn't really enjoy MGM other than Playhouse Disney and the playground. They would never pass up a day at AK though! I'd say it's definitely worth it.

I would definitly go. While the park can be wrapped up in say, 3/4 of a day (though some may disagree) the way the animals are presented is simply amazing. Having no fences visible with large roaring lions very close to your very open safari vehicle is just not to be missed. The attention to detail and theming is wonderful. When taking the safari (you must do this, its the main attraction at the park) you look out on what you know is central florida, yet looks almost exactly like parts of Africa. I understand thousands of plants were transplanted to central florida from africa just to gain that realism. The effort suceeded.

There is much more to do besides the safari and animal viewing walking trails. (Which you must do as well. I found the bat room very VERY creepy and fun.) There are a number of rides that are fun and scary. I can't recall the name of the dinosaur time travel ride, but it freaks my DW out. She loves it and so do I. The 3d "It's tough to be a bug" show is pretty good. I've seen the one in California, but not the one at AK cuz DW has a thing about spiders so its not fun for her. Its cute and entertaining.

Asia hadn't been built when I visited so perhaps other DIS folks can chime in on whats there to do.

So I'd go, check out the park and if you get bored, enjoy a beer or three and go hop on over to another park. Thats what the "hopper" part is for. But I would definitly give the AK park a shot.

I think you could do a half day morning at AK & a half day evening at MGM to get full use out of your PHP. The little ones will probably only do VotLM, PHD and B&TB at MGM, maybe Muppet 3D which I think you could do in a half day.

hi, i went animal kingdom it is really fun and good if you and your children are into animals, but if they just want the rides it really aint worth going because there is not alot of rides there. have a great time!:bounce:

I would plan on going I'm sure you and family will have a great time.Since you have park hoppers and AK closes before other parks you could hop to another park.::yes:: :wave2:

I would try and do the AK - its a great park. Perhaps you can get to AK at opening and just see what hits you. I recommend the Safari and Festival of the Lion King as "must do" then scan the map and check your times and see what else interests your family.

When you leave AK just pop on the bus to the park open latest if you want the "most of your hopper" - maybe Epcot and spend the rest of the day.

fwiw - my girls love AK and wouldn't miss it.

My DD4 loves Animal Kingdom. I would definitely go. She wasn't really impressed with MGM however. We did all she wanted at MGM in about 3 hours. I'd start out at AK first thing in the morning and then move to MGM (since it's open later anyway) after you've done AK. I think you can easily accomplish both in one day with little ones. Our must-do's at AK are the safari, Tarzan Rocks, Pocahontas, Lion King, and seeing Stanley at the conservation station. At MGM, we did Little Mermaid, Beauty and the Beast, Playhouse Disney (which was kind of a let down for us) and the Muppets.

My grandson and I just spent the afternoon planning an upcoming (two years from now) trip for the next time that his family and I will be at DW together. DD does not love the place as much as I do. (sigh)

Anyway we have decided that AK will be the perfect park for us to share on 'our' day. We will be there when it opens, head for Kilamanjaro (early is the best time to see the animals) , make sure to catch the Lion King and Tarzan shows, head back out by the Tree of Life and Bug show with a late lunch at the Rainforest Cafe (near the monkey's please). Plenty of time left to check out Andy's Room at the Movies and have some relaxing time before his parents come back to claim him. He loves animals. You know your children best and can best judge what they might enjoy. Have a ball planning, is a big part of the fun.
