My DD's and I will be going to DC in late August and was wondering about people's experiences with renting a cabana there. Was also curious if you can eat your lunch at the cabana.

Thanks

I heard its not worth it because

1. where the food is its a hike from where the cabanas are
2. your gonna be spending most of your time in the different pools

this is just what someone from discovery cove's facebook said.

we are going july 5th if I can peak in them I will tell you what is all in them and how far is it from the food.

I think it depends a lot on the make-up of your group. I have seen reviews where people have been thrilled with their cabana and that it was well worth the money. In particular, people traveling with toddlers seem to find the cabanas a haven for the little ones to play in the shade and for them to have some down time.

For our group, it would have been a waste. My kids are all very active and love to swim. There is no way they would have spent time hanging out in a cabana when they could have been snorkeling etc...and neither would I. Other than breakfast and lunch, we really didn't sit down all day. (DH took about an hour break in a lounger, that was it.)

I think it really depends on the energy level of your group and what you want to get out of your day. :goodvibes

I agree with smallworld71. We just got back from DC on June 23. It was amazing and we really didnt spend much time lounging around. We had a chair under an umbrella and we spent the rest of the time with the dolphins, snorkeling, in the lazy river or with the birds. We spent *maybe* 30 minutes the entire day on the chair and we stayed from opening until 5pm.

With that being said, if I had a little one (my DD is 10) I would maybe consider it as a place to rest, nap, etc.

We were there on June 5th and had a cabana so here is our experience.

We had a party of 4 Adults and 4 Kids, 1 being 20 months.

* Having a place for the kids to play, especially the baby without having a wide open area for them to try to run off in made the day much easier when we were getting ready to do things and needing a place to go for some downtime.

* Sand and Sun without beach shoes are a bad thing :) Since we were not smart enough to bring the shoes then having some shade around the sandy area for the kids was also nice. They were able to build sand castles and such without getting legs, feet and hands burned by the hot sand.

* Having the fridge there for bottle water/drinks was really nice and our attendent left lots of snacks too, so we did not have to search for drinks/snacks at the huts.

* Knowlegeable attendent made our Dolphin swim much better. Since they booked us all together and could not move us to a new time I was thinking I was SOL since I had the baby. He informed me that they have babysiters that would watch DD on the beach. NO ONE else had told us that, even at checkin when I complained about it.

* Peaceful, if I did not have the kids it would have been a nice place to go and get away from it all :) Being able to watch dolphins jump out in front of you while have a beer or glass of wine was pretty amazing.

* The new ones will have fans from what I am told and better fridges :)

For us the cost was well worth the extra money. When we go back I would get one again without a doubt.

i don't have little ones but we never even sat on the lounge chairs, we put our stuff on the chairss and only ran back to grab the camera...we were pretty much in the water the whole time.
