This year we are looking to go to WDW and after running the numbers, based on trip #1 because we cant book flights for Sept. yet, flying would cost us Approx. $1000 for 3 of us direct from MI to MCO. Flight tickets are going for about $142 right now and Airtran just raised their first checked bag from $20 to $25. I did a trip cost calculator for our vehicle and it says $250 round trip. IM very skeptical of this figure. Even if its double, I would still save $500. So the ultimate question again is, Fly or Drive? 20hrs vs 2.5hrs. It wont affect our time there at all because were staying Sun-Thurs. Plenty of travel time. TIA everyone.

I would fly. I've done the drive from Grand Rapids Mi to Florida a few times, and unless we take our time and see the sights along the way, it is just no fun. The drive down isn't horrible, but the drive back when you are tired and just want to be home is.

I think 20 hours is an optimistic estimate for drive time. You need to add another hours or so for stopping for gas and for bathroom breaks, and to stretch your legs.

Also, if you plan to stop one night on the way there and back, you need to add another $100 or more to your drive cost for hotels. And then there is the cost of food along the way, and maybe a souvenir or two. So now your $500 saved is down to $250 or $300. To me that is not a large enough amount to waste precious Disney time in the car, instead of at WDW.
