To Do DDP or Not To Do DDP

DH and I have been twice to DisneyWorld(live in Cal.) Both times we did the DP. We're thinking that this time maybe we wont. We are not big eaters and the last two times we felt that it was just too much food for us. It's only the two of us so I'm wondering if we'll be nickels and dimes ahead of the game by just paying as we go since we don't feel we need all that food. Do you think we will be throwing money out the window if we predominately eat quick service meals and maybe a couple of table service meals??? Or should we just pay the $$$$$ for the dining plan?

Thanks,
Jan

They do have the quick service plan now. I would check into that. Good luck with whatever you decide:)

I would think if you don't do a TS meal each day, you'd be losing money with the DDP. I don't know if the QS plan would work for you- If you're planning on sharing meals, that would probably stretch it out to give you three meals/day, or it may not be worth the money! I know that wasn't much help! Sorry!!;)

I read somewhere that the Disney Dining Plan is approx. $40 per day per adult (allears.net, perhaps?) . If that's correct, we would easily spend way more on food if we were paying out of pocket. I did also read that the QS plan is more of a "break even" - the real cost savings is with the basic DP. We've done the Dining Plan every trip and are very excited to be doing it for free this September :)

We just got back and did the QSDP. It was AWESOME. The reg. dining plan, was okay, but I did not like to schedule my days around reservation. I have 2 kids, ages 5 and six, and my DH. We ate really good on it. Went to Wolfgang's 3 times (lol), and had 23 snack credits left to go to Goofy's to spend!! Will do again. No schedule and mostly no tipping!! However we did tip at Wolfgang's, because of the atmosphere.

We have done the math and based on what we would realistically purchase versus the cost of the DDP (with tips), we would break even. But, we always go with the DDP because we will get more food and I will buy what entree I want and not what I can afford.

However, this only works when you want to eat at the more expensive TS. If you do alot of buffets or CS, then it's probably better OOP.

Even if you do eat TS every day, you may not want to do the DDP. Look at how you eat, realistically. Our last trip, we had a TS every day, including some 2TS restaurants, and didn't do the plan. Why? Because we usually don't eat 2 desserts in one day (CS & TS). I often order 2 appetizers instead of a main course, or an appetizer & and entree. Or we share; 2 apps, 1 entree, 1 dessert or something like that.

We ordered what we wanted when we wanted. I didn't have to keep track of credits, or worry if this snack is covered or if we'd have enough if we had 2 snacks in a day, or anything else. I wasn't tempted to "get the most bang for my buck." We came out about the same, if not a bit cheaper, than the plan, and we weren't stuffed.

I think it depends on if you do a TS every day. If you do more CS than I don't think it is worth. We are getting it for the first time because my daughter wants to bring my grandchildren to the character meals. I will probably break even as I have 3 teens but my older daughter will buy for herself and 2 kids 4 & 6. We usually do CS with one TS (if that) when we usually go and I like to share even the CS meals. I never get dessert with a meal and sometimes don't even have a snack so we will see.
