My family and I will be @ WDW the week of Thanksgiving '08.We thought we'd skip the DDP, limit dining out to once a day(I'm good with a crock pot, electric griddle and PB&Js) and save the $1200. But after reading posts re:inceased prices during T'giving, I'm reconsidering. We'll be staying @ POR for convenience to DD and access to a wee bit lesser costs dining options. What say you?
The increased prices are for buffets and fixed price all you can eat meals. If you want to do at least one of those a day, the DDP may be an option you want to look at.
Even with the increased prices you are not going to offset a $1200 savings.
Well, if you're staying 9 nights with 4 Adult diners on the DP it will cost you $1368 ($152/day). Cooking in the room is a no no (fire hazard), but having snacks and using the microwave in the dining hall are not. I'd suggest setting a budget for meals and snacks and setting a plan to let you do that. We loved the DP, but only stayed 5 nights with 2A and 1C.
We stayed at CBR and I can definitely recommend the dining hall. I'd look at that menu and budget to eat a number of meals there. You'll get excellent portion sizes and good food. You could even grab a couple of cold sandwiches to take to the park if you didn't want bother with park food on a given day.
If you do character meals consider the late breakfast slots, post 11am. That way you can get a buffet/all you care to eat meal midday that counts as lunch. Trails End buffet at Ft Wilderness isn't a characer meal, but it's relatively inexpensive buffet. I can say the same thing for the breakfast buffet at Boma in the Animal Kingdom.
